Anyone Interested in Old School Car Audio For Trade

I wish I had never sold my two Power 1000's. I had two 18" RF pro series woofers bandpass in the bed of my truck ported into the cab.

I've used pre-mitek Xtant amps in my last two systems. If they ever croak I don't know what I'll replace them with. Cleanest amps I've ever heard.
If you want anything old school Fosgate related, let me know... I'm sure you see I have a connection in that area... :D

Also the old school Orion amps (red/gold) were absolutely killer...

remembers when ported beds were the shit...

Yeah, it's more for looks than anything else.....

Best system I ever had was stuffed into a 91 Mustang LX.... 4x JL Audio 10w6's pushed by 2x RF punch 4040's and mids/highs run by 4080's.... Would shake the shit out of anything....

Speaking of "for looks", I had a "friend" talk me into a McIntosh amp one time.... most overpriced POS I had ever seen.... Sure did look cool, though... :)

Nicest (for function) "show" vehicle I had ever seen was the Cerwin Vega "Stoker" van.... insane stuff...

Damn, maybe I need to pick up a few things again..... :o

THE STROKER VAN, THAT WAS KEN KOGA'S CREATION, I SPENT MANY HOURS TALKING WITH THOSE GUYS AT THE SHOWS OVER THE YEARS. THEY ALSO HAD ALOT TO DO WITH THE T.I.P.S. BREAD TRUCK..... DID YOU EVER SEE THAT THING? 24 STROKER 15'S, 48 LINEAR POWER AMPS, 96 BATTERIES. THAT WAS WHAT CAME AFTER THEY RETIRED THE VAN. THE BOX TRUCK COULD DO A 165DB AT THE DASH WITH THE DOOR OPEN, CLOSED IT DID OVER A 170. THIS WAS WHEN THE WORLD RECORD WAS 163. THEY WOULDN'T LET THE TRUCK COMPETE BECAUSE THE BREAD TRUCK WAS CONSIDERED A COMMERCIAL VEHICLE. THOSE GUYS WERE COOL AS SHIT.

Never saw that one....

last I ever saw of the Stroker van was at the Dallas IASCA show in.... 1995? Something like that...

YOU KNOW I CAN TAKE CARE OF YA..... I KNOW YOU LIKE THEM XTANT'S BUT THERE ARE NEW ONES THAT ARE JUST AS GOOD IF NOT BETTER.

I DIDN'T REALIZE THERE WAS SO MANY BASS HEADS ON THIS SITE.

I can't remember exactly when I built the truck but it has to be close to 20 years ago. It is mild by todays standards but back then it was pretty extreme. I'll have to see if I can find pictures to scan.

Me and Orion never got along. The power supplies were very touchy and they would smoke real easy.

WOW, THAT WAS THE SECOND IASCA FINALS I WAS EVER AT, BRINGS BACK OLD MEMORIES..... THE TIPS VAN DEBUTED AT THE 97 FINALS, I THINK THEY WERE IN NASHVILLE, OR LOUISVILLE. I'LL LOOK FOR PICS.

yeah, but you could tweak a 200w amp to well over 500w and compete with ease... that's the only reason they were as popular as they were...

then Orion tried to come out with the Cobalt, which was an incredible piece of shit...

Since then, I haven't seen anything from 'em... They use to really crank out the blue (svc) and red (dvc) subs like no tomorrow though... Then Fosgate killed that with their cheapass series 1 subs...

I digress...

THANK GOD SOMEBODY ELSE SAID IT...... I HATED THOSE AMPS.

I WAS GIVEN 24 OF THE OLD 2250 TO REPLACE MY US AMPS (I HAD 12 USA 400'S) I ACTUALLY TURNED DOWN FULL SPONSORSHIP AND GAVE THEM BACK. MY 12 AMPS RATED AT LESS POWER WERE ALMOST 4 DB'S LOUDER. THE 2250 HAD 2 40 AMP FUSES, MEANING IT COULD ONLY DO 600 WATTS BEFORE IMPLODING ON ITSELF. IT WAS THE MOST OVER RATED HIGH DOLLAR AMP I EVER TESTED.

Yeah, I was in the Army at that point and really haven't been into it since. I started messing with audio in 1992-93 and was hard and heavy up through the end of 1996...

I remember walking around the showroom and every 5min you'd hear this "bomp bom bom BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMPP!!!!" and we were all saying, "what the hell is that?!?!"

We found the Stroker van and they'd let you sit in the passenger seat with protective ear wear on and crank a few notes.... Made my insides shake!

I REMEMBER THE HCCA SERIES THAT YOU'RE REFERRING TO. THE HCCA 2100 WAS RATED AT A BS 200 WATTS, BUT ORION CLAIMED IT WOULD DO 1000 (THE SAME AS THE XTR2250) BUT THEY ONLY REALLY DID 500 OR SO, WHICH SUCKS FOR AN AMP THAT RETAILED FOR 900 BUCKS.

ORION DIED YEARS AGO WHEN DIRECTED ELECTRONICS BOUGHT THE NAME. THE STUFF IS DECENT NOW, BUT THE KIDS BUYING TODAY DON'T KNOW THE ORION NAME, SO I'M GUESSING IT WILL BE DEAD AGAIN SOON.

yeah, that was it - HCCA....

just out of curiosity, what's the best stuff out there today? Say.. If I wanted to drop one 10" and an amp into my car today?

(to the OP, sorry for absolutely destroying your original thread....)

YEP, THAT WAS MY FIRST YEAR COMPETING AT WORLD FINALS. I FINISHED 9TH AS A 17 YEAR OLD KID. I REMEMBER THEY STILL USED TO BREAK THE CLASSES DOWN BY BS POWER RATINGS. I HAD OVER 12000 WATTS OF POWER, BUT WAS ONLY RATED AT 300..... I HAD 12 US AMPS VLX 25'S AT THE TIME, THEY WERE RATED AT 12.5 WATTS PER CHANNEL, AND I TESTED THEM AT 1050 BRIDGED AT 1 OHM MONO. I WISH I STILL HAD THOSE AMPS, IT'S ONE OF THE FEW SALES I REGRET.

I SPENT ALOT OF MY LIFE FOR 10 YEARS OR SO, SPENDING MY WEEKENDS ON HOT PARKING LOTS, JUST TO SEE WHO WAS THE LOUDEST. I MISS THE DAYS OF NO WORRIES.I HAD A BLAST.

THE BEST..... DEPENDS ON PRICE REALLY. WITHOUT A BUDGET LIMIT, I'D SAY THE MMATS DREADNAUT, WITH A NICE MMATS MONO BLOCK AMPLIFIER

you and I both.... I remember the first time I went to spring break nationals in Daytona, It was kind of like input overload... I remember standing on the strip at like 5-530 in the morning people were still bassin it out, went to sleep for 3 hours and woke up to walls shakin in the hotel.. what more would a 17 yr old kid want, cars both loud and fast, women, and hangin out with your friends, probly some of the most fun you could have....

have you guys ever heard of RE XXX subs?? In my opinion they are right up there with the mmats juggs, maybe even a touch better...or maybe the kicker solo x... I think if I were to build a spl car I might consider those 2

I'M ALSO AN RE DEALER, I LIKE THE JUGG A LITTLE MORE, MAINLY BECAUSE IT WAS THE FIRST WOOFER OF ITS TYPE, THE OTHERS ARE JUST GOOD COPIES REALLY. THE DD AND RE WOOFERS ARE VERY NICE, BUT I RESPECT THE ORIGINAL THE MOST.

I WOULDN'T TOUCH ANYTHING FROM KICKER. JUST MY OPINION AFTER TESTING THE STUFF

That was fun...

I have to say that regardless of whether I strike up a deal or not, it was a lot of fun bringing up all the old car audio equipment and having people discuss their memories of the good old equipment and some of the audio systems and everything. It sure brings back a lot of memories of days when I was hopelessly addicted to car audio and spent all my time working on my audio system.

Now instead of being under a dash or in a trunk, I spend all my free time at the pool table to looking at buying and selling pool equipment. A few years ago I wouldn't have thought anything could be more addictive than car audio, but Pool is probably the most addictive thing I could ever imagine.

Thank you to everyone that posted in the thread, it was a lot of fun to discuss and bring back the old memories and talk about some of that old school equipment! :D
