But every ball that's hanging right in front of a pocket, sitting right next to another ball, or only banks to one pocket and that pocket is blocked, means fewer shots to line up on. I would guess that a good deal of the time, the balls would fall in such a position that there aren't 5 of them "in the clear" where you can line up a really easy bank, even with ball in hand.

The key is the break. I think if you break soft into the second ball, you can move a lot of balls to the side rail where you can do 1h type banks.
