Can anyone tell me how to tell if a Schon is from the Runde era? I bought it back in the early to mid 90's used and was in like new condition.

I tried to email Schon with no luck.

I believe they only used that pin in 93' and Runde left in 92', someone will come along and verify or correct me.

Im no genius on Schons but I would say that is not a Runde era cue. I was under the impression that most if not all had spliced points.

If it plays 100 times better than a brand new Schon, it's a Runde Era Schon! LOL. I feel a difference from the old to the new, but it just personal preference. The new ones play great too.
Yours is a 93'. Definitely not a Runde. Runde's had the sharp points and dashed maple lines on the collars. There are some exceptions to that rule though.

There are a few guys on here who are Schon experts.

As far as I know Runde Era Schons all had the umlaut, two dots, above the o. They stopped doing that and now I believe they do it again so that's probably not the best indicator.

Marking the shafts with Schon13 came after Bob left. And the pin was a stock 5/16x14 thread when Bob was there.

Other than that I don't know really. I have heard that during his time they did inlaid points alongside spliced points.

Runde did both spliced and CNC while at Schon, so you can't just rely on the points to identify them.

What about my cue? Its a SL13 I got in 1993, but was used, so probably older than 1993. Would be interesting to know. See pics below.
Thanks, Mark

I believe they are adding the umlauts above the 'o', for some or all of the new CX Cuestix Intl. model Schon cues.
I've heard some complaining about it from the Schon purist's here in Denver.

It's not, here's my very early R12 with no umlauts, spliced points, stitched rings, yellow micarta ferrules:

Not sure I understand you correctly, what exactly the Schon purists are complaining about? Couple of dots above the "o" in the buttcap on CX models? They are after all Schon cues, I don't see why the umlauts shouldn't be there

Those new umlauts are a big deal to the guys holding old Schons with the original umlauts.
Personally I would of never given it a thought, but I have heard the complaint many times.
Cuestix International is here in Lafayette, CO, and there is a lot of cue-talk in the pool halls.
I know AZer's who travel to Denver, and can't believe how many people sit around and discuss cues.
In other towns I guess people actually play pool in the pool halls.
If you haven't noticed pool players like to *****....:)

Sure looks like Evan's work to me. I'm fairly certain all Runde era Schon's had sharp points.

It is Evans work, but there a lot of Rundes out there with CNC points. I posted a pic of a Runde SP-8 CNC point cue earlier in this thread. They transitioned to CNC in the late 1980's well before he left.

I have 2 Schon's, one from mid-80's and one from 1990 timeframe, both made by Runde - I know since I was friends with his son... :) Older one has spliced points, newer one has CNC style. Both hit great, almost identical in fact, can't imagine hitting with anything else. I do believe he used the same pins throughout his time there, so that newer style pin could indicate that it was Evan's work.

Thanks AZers,
It's a 93...
Here's what I learned...
Umlouts mean nothing
Round points don't tell either
Pin seems to be a good indicator...
And best giveaway is that I found verbiage in blue book explaining that Evan started printing Schon 13 in gold in the shaft collar ONLY IN 93 !!!
In 94 started printing Schon in the wood.
Mine has the gold print in the collar which if they're right makes it a definitive 93...

Anyone interested in the cue?

Can anyone give me an approximate value of the cue with 1 orig Schon shaft and 1predator 314 shaft?
