Anyone know what kind of wood this is?

Def not waterfall bubinga, the subtle strait grain under the figure suggests maple, maybe tiger maple
 
I'll shoot him a pm didn't know he posted here. The cue makers at the open didn't seem to think it was curly maple.

Tiger maple is the same as curly or flame maple. Your wood could also be an unusual example of maple, stained. All woods have their freakish examples, but the close up grain of most maple is not like your cue.

I agree, quilted maple. Bubinga is similar, but a darker color.

I think curly maple. I use it to build gun stocks and it looks very similar.

I'd go with Tiger Maple but a very funky piece, likely stained with a golden stain which further brings out the grain...
 
in my humble opinion. . .

what we see happening in this thread is exactly why Eric Crisp had such a meteoric rise as a cuemaker - besides making one hell of a stiff-hitting cue, that is.

the woods he chose to use were extraordinary, to say the least.

there's some knowledgeable az'ers scratching their heads over this cue. :smile:

too bad Eric had to step away from it for a while.
