Anyone on here ever been provided with an invalid USPS tracking number from a seller?

I do not know of any other good forums, so I just wanted to ask on here if anyone on here has ever been provided with an invalid USPS tracking number from a seller?

I recently purchased a very nice Universal cue on ebay, and I have a bad feeling that the seller is trying to rip me off.

He has provided me with a 12 digit tracking number (251176022640), and I know that is not a valid Delivery Confirmation number, because all Delivery Confirmation numbers from the post office are 20 digits (5 sets of 4 numbers each).

I am just wondering if anyone here has experienced a similar problem with a seller, and tell me how you handled the situation?

I have filed a paypal complaint, but paypal says that I need to wait until the 7th before I can escalate the dispute to a claim with paypal (to let them make a decision on what to do).

By that time, the buyer could have already withdrawn the money, and spent it.

I know that I should probably put this question on a paypal or ebay forum, but I was just curious about what happened with any other similar experiences like mine?

The seller is now telling me (after he provided me with the invalid tracking number) that he is using his dads ebay account (and this is his 1st time selling on ebay), and that he forgot to get Delivery Confirmation for the shipment.

Sorry, I do not mean to cry about it on here.

I just was curious about others that had a similar experience with a seller providing an invalid tracking number, and if you successfully got your money back through a paypal complaint?

I hope that it is okay to post any kind of question in the main forum, and sorry if I should have put my question in the "non pool related" area?

Thanks

I bought a Kamui tip off Ebay last year in December. Although they said they were in California, they were in China and never sent the tip. Paypal refunded me.

Frustrating, but you should be covered if it is a bogus deal. You just have to wait.

It was not all that long ago, September 2011, that you had trouble with your Ebay/Paypal account. I think it may have been one of your first deals here if not the first. I was the buyer in that deal with you. I listened, was patient, and all was well.

My advice:
#1 Don't panic. I never panic, not even if I see arterial blood, so a pool cue deal sure won't do it to me.

#2 Communicate. Talk to the other party

#3 Keep records. Keep records of everything. Get a program to create PDFs to make saving stuff from online easier (DoPDF is great) and take screen shots as well. Don't rely on anything being saved on some server somewhere.

#5 Know the rules/regs for transactions etc of whatever system you are using. This can be a pain and changes so I guess we just do the best we can with this.

As for the tracking number issue, yes, I did recently have that problem. When I asked the seller about it they just said they had accidentally copied the wrong number. They sent me a new number and it was fine. But it seems your seller still isn't providing a number after all.

Wait the 7 days...jump through the proper hoops.

That's the ebay item number, not a tracking number. I found your auction with it.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/251176022640;jsessionid=4AEEE2BA471C0686542DEEA01EAF192A?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_nkw%3D251176022640%26_rdc%3D1

The lack of a proper tracking number is disturbing, but paypal will cover you if the seller can't provide it. Just looking at the auction I think you're going to be OK.

I've been ripped off twice on ebay and been refunded both times.

I've just spotted something on ebay I'd like to buy, but suspect it's a rip off - my question is, do ebay/PP refund you on every single deal that's a con?

as long as you conducted the deal within their parameters, shipping to confirmed address, etc., then yes they will.

the burden is on the seller to prove he sent the item and that it was received by the buyer.

Oh, lol, that is funny that he provided me with the ebay item number. I feel silly for not realizing that. The seller told me Wednesday night that you would ship it on the next day, and then he told me on Thursday night that he would ship it on Friday morning, and that he would be emailing me the Delivery Confirmation number. I waited until Saturday to write the seller again, and now he is telling me that he shipped it on Saturday, and that he forgot to get Delivery Confirmation for the shipment. He is telling me that it is his 1st time selling on ebay, and that he is using his dads ebay account. The seller has received very good feedback for many high dollar cues (like a Schon for $350) in the past, so I thought I would be dealing with an honest seller. It is just upsetting, because I asked the seller several times not to forget to add Delivery Confirmation to the shipment, and he told me that he would be adding it. That is very stupid of a seller not to add proof of shipping an item out. I am honest, so I will close the dispute if I do receive the cue. I had the feeling that the seller just wanted to keep the cue, because maybe it did not sell for as much as the seller was waiting to get for it. Well, thanks all for your nice replies.

You must be referring to the custom Viking that you purchased from me. Yeah, I think that was the 1st cue I sold on here, or was it on ebay (lol, I can;t remember). I have a very bad memory, so I can't remember what issue happened with that transaction, but I do remember that you received the cue, and were happy with it. I know that I have had some issues to with items that I have sold in the past, but 2 very important things that I always remembered to add is Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to USPS shipments. If the seller did ship the cue, than I have a feeling that he did not buy insurance for the shipment either.

I remember years back when ebay/paypal would only cover up to $200 of the paypal payment, so if you purchased an item that cost over $200, and got ripped off, than ebay/paypal would only refund you up to $200 if they were not able to get back the money from the sellers paypal account. These days, ebay/paypal covers 100% of the original paypal payment. They do this by the ebay feedback system I think. If a seller is pretty new to selling on ebay, with less than maybe 50 good feedback ratings, than they hold the full amount of the paypal payment until the buyer received the item that they purchased, and leaves good feedback for that item on ebay (to let ebay/paypal know that they are satisfied with the item they received). Ebay/paypal does not hold the money from sellers that have a good history with being paid through paypal, and a high ebay score (maybe over 50 feedbacks, but not sure). The seller has close to 250 feedbacks on ebay, so I do not think that they would have put a hold on my paypal payment to the seller.

google the number

might be a honest mistake

Yeah, I feel very silly for not noticing that before, lol. But it still does not make any sense for the seller not to provide me with an actual Delivery Confirmation number.

Yup. That was the old Viking. And I am indeed very happy with it.

I don't remember what happened exactly either except that there was some sort of issue with Paypal or Ebay. We dealt with it and it was done.

I was so confident at the time that it was an old Viking...but I have been told it might be a Ricco Cervantes cue. It seems the identity of the cue might be up in the air again.

I have seen your posts many times since then and have often responded. You ask questions and I think that's great. It's a heck of a lot better than just not asking or assuming something. This thread is one such example. It never hurts to discuss something if you are not sure.

If you paid with a credit card, call them and stop payment.

Yeah, I have contacted the seller at least 10 times since last Tuesday after I paid for it, and I asked the seller several times not to forget to add Delivery Confirmation to the shipment (before he shipped it out). He told me that he would add Delivery Confirmation, and email me the tracking number on Friday. Now the seller is telling me that he just paid for the postage (without tracking, or insurance added), and all that he has for proof of shipment is the receipt for the postage that he paid for the shipment. So now I am asking him to email me a picture of the receipt. It will at least tell me where the shipment was sent to (the zip code), and it will show the weight of the shipment (that I think should be around 2 pounds). I know that it is not tracking, but it will make me feel a little better to see the receipt.

Did you contact the seller and ask?

That sounds cool that it may be a vintage custom custom made cue. Well, I am very grateful for all of your replies in the past. I really love the game, and I get curious about many things that I do not know (from time to time). Most people on here have been very nice in their replies to my posts. Thanks.

I received the cue today, and I am happy with it. I guess that I should have waited at least 3 days from the day that the seller told me that he shipped the cue out, before I started to freak out (thinking he was being dis honest), and file a paypal complaint. Well, I closed the paypal dispute, and I think the seller is very lucky that he was dealing with an honest buyer, because he had no Delivery Confirmation, or Insurance added to the shipment (only the postage needed for the shipment). Well, thanks all for reading all of my crazy whining, lol. I know that I have crazy trust issues.

Glad everything ended up working out for you!
