Has anyone seen this movie? Titled: Turn the River.
Stars a very attractive actress, (Famke Janssen), who is a mother trying to get her son back. In an effort to do so; she hustles pool and cards. The trailer shows some pretty good shooting, so I wondered if it was worth it.
Anyone seen it? opinions?

something was off

It's not bad...better than some other pool movies I've seen.
Boy was I surprised when one pocket was the central game.
I recommend it, although it's pretty slow.

I see Tony Robles had a minor role.

From IMDB:

Ten years ago, pool shark Kailey Sullivan (Famke Janssen) lost her only son, Gulley (Jaymie Dornan), in a bitter divorce custody battle. Now she wants to get him back, no matter what it takes. But, in order for Kailey to get enough money for fake passports so they can flee to Canada, she needs to win a big game of pool. With the help of her mentor, pool hall owner Quinette (Rip Torn), she's able to meet with Gulley in secret and also locate some competitors so she can have a game.

(I was going to look at the views and box office for the movie on IMDB but there is a problem. They used to provide that kind of info for free. Now it is owned by Amazon and if you want access to detailed info about movies, such as how much money they make, Amazon/IMDB charges you $150/year. I'm not that big a movie fan. And they kind of hide the fact that it's going to cost you that much for a subscription.)

Amazon strikes again.

Somehow my friend, I knew you had seen this movie!
Hope all is well.
Right back at you :) I quite liked it, but I agree with the comments about it kind of peetering out with no real sense of ending. It's almost like a made for TV movie vibe.

Gotcvha, a humid/rainy night here, I'll watch it on-line for cheap then.
Thanks!

I found this about the financials. So many movies, so many staggering financial losses. Guess the industry is recession proof.

Turn the River was ahead of its time for a female lead.

The latest batch of summer movies mostly have females as the lead character.

Older male audiences may not appreciate the shift from a male perspective to a female perspective.

Movies like church are didactic. Not enough audiences understand the female perspective or spend the time to sit through the movie.
