Anyone Still Carving Designs?

I found this picture online while researching antique cue's. I prefer a no wrap style and was wondering if this style of grip area checkering is still being done (professionally)anymore?

If you want checkering you might see if a cue maker would team up with somebody that does gun stocks. Just a thought.

A lot do.
Cnc lose track of Z axis , it will carve the cue.
Taper bar slip, nice carve is the result.

Kidding aside, most makers in the Philippines hand cut their inlays.

I have a customer who is really good at checkering. I built him a plain jane cue so he could checker it. Then the bug bit him to build a cue so he built his first cue as a full splice he did himself. He even made the points sharp at bottom and top. To do it by hand like he does cost a few hundred dollars.

Out Law cues. I have seen a few in person. Not exactly my cup of tea that I would want as a player
but still pretty unique looking.

quote:Original designs were inspired by tattoos and are carved by master craftsmen, then "branded" by hand using a blowtorch.
The look is utterly innovative and sure to draw enormous amounts of jealousy in poolrooms across the globe.

Wow, went and built a full splice? On his own? Cool.

As for the checkering, that's wht I am talking about. Any chance you have pics of his work?

Obviously not for everybody but definitely interesting!
