Anyone try this cloth yet?

I just ordered this cloth to try on my home table. Curious if anyone else has tried or even heard of it. It's a worsted cloth and cheap so.....it may be just that, CHEAP, but I am trying it to see if it's an alternative to the big price increases we've all endured lately. If anyone else is curious, I will post follow-up opinion on the stuff.

Never heard of it. Seems "Born Winner" is a brand (tips too).
I'd guess it comes from China and looks like being sold from an outfit in Calif.
Post a critique when you can.

the only thing i can see that might be an issue is that it's only 70% wool and they didn't say what weight is the cloth. no i don't mean the 4lbs shipping weight but oz weight of the cloth per yard.

DURABILITY
Generally speaking, the wool in the cloth is a main factor that determines durability.. There is no way to predict how long any style of fabric will hold up because of the differences in the quality of installation and amount of play on the table. A table in your home does not get the amount of play as a table in a commercial pool room so any style of fabric should last much longer before it needs to be replaced in a home environment. The tightness of the fabric weave is also a factor. A looser weave will wear down faster because there is less material used in the weave. One indicator of durability is the ounce weight per yard of fabric such as 21oz, 19oz, etc. Better quality fabric will be a minimum of 19oz. The best measure to compare durability among cloths is threads per inch (TPI) however this information is not usually released by the manufacturers.

760, HR and 3030 are 70% (HR actually 71%)
Maybe an ebay listing error on the weight.

Then any comparison should relate to 760 as it's the same wool/nylon blend yes??? Fair enough? I would never expect it to even come close to Simonis but, looking for a possible "affordable" alternative for my customers looking for something other than what they often refer to as "the fuzzy stuff". At $80 for a 9' cut, it may or may not be. I will be my own Guinea pig and report back here during/after install.

I ordered it when I posted this thread and still don't have it so, we're starting off on the slow side for shipping!! Strike one :boring:

yeah, i googled it after i posted and found that most worsted cloth is right around 70%. i'm curious about the oz weight per yard on this Born Winner cloth.

Received the cloth yesterday so, only 3 days from CA to NC shipped via Priority mail. Not bad! Pretty good in fact ;)

Only had time to open the package and this feels almost identical to Tour Edition 3030 but I don't think quite as heavy. I may or may not have a chance to install it this week but will ASAP and let anyone interested know how it is to work with. One feature I already don't care for is one rail cloth has the *Born Winner* logo imprinted on it and unfortunately it's on the "up" side. I will try and test removing it with Acetone or see if I can get it under the rail.

Citrus-based adhesive remover works on Simonis markings - may work on that stuff.

This is not my favorite worsted cloth to work with. There is not much stretch and my guess is that it came from the same factory in China as Velocity Pro. They are similar in feel, weight, stretchability and both are the more stringy cloths I've seen. There were multiple flaws in the form of knots, so quality control is defintely an issue. See (the fuzzy) photo's below. One I could not get a pciture to take was actually cross-ways and about 1.5" - 2" long. Even though the price is good, don't think I'll be recommending it to anyone. With that kind of quality control, call backs would be inevitable! I'll post more after I play a few hundred racks to see howit plays.

Well, after only two weeks on my home table, here's what I thought of that cloth if anyone gives a hoot:

The best analogy I can think of is that it's like going from playing on sandpaper to satin. I went back to Tour Edition 30/30 and the feel on your bridge hand was night and day as well as ball control and speed. No comparison! Really not in the top 20 for any cloth I've worked with, played on, etc...

JMO folks!!!

I've tried several of these knockoffs, and experienced the same thing. The latest was 'Zamtini'. It's a worsted cloth, and cheap, but very rough to the touch, and lots of imperfections. I think they would be okay as a cheap alternative if they could figure out the quality control, but I guess that's why they're cheap. It was just hard to picture getting a 9 foot piece that didn't have a knot or a thread that would get you called back. Not worth it.

Thanks for the feed back on this cloth Robin, i was considering it my self. I wonder if it comes from the same place as mali's vestra, as i've tried it and, it had some knots in it too, and not much stretch in it either. I would like to ask why you went with the championship rather than simonis, as it does'nt seem to be a huge difference in price?

I went back to Tour Edition because that's what I had on it for about 3 years and it wore fantastic and played great. One reason I changed it was because one of the lights I have over the table dropped and cut the cloth. The bulbs didn't even break so it appeared to be more of a swooping fall so it just cut the cloth in 3 places and it came down. Happened over night so no one was playing.....fortunately! I thought about trying the Milliken Super Pro as alot of rooms in my area use it but price was about the same as Simonis also.
