Anyone want to talk about the Russian Kenny situation last night ?

So in case you missed Russian Kenny got a free paid entry into the Florida open . I guess they wanted his nonsense to bring some attention to the game. He was playing Shane Wilford and he dogged the nine and then was cussing and swearing at the ref because he was moving when he shot. I.heard from someone sitting there watching that it definitely happened and the ref had done it plenty before. This isn’t an I want to shit on Russian Kenny thread. Was he unprofessional mostly .. yes. He was talking to his opponent when he was trying to play . He just didn’t dress or look the part and every other word is the f bomb lol but I don’t think he’s a terrible dude.. he’s from the streets and matchroom knew what they were getting. That being said is this what we really want in our top events when we are trying to get some respect for the game? I love watching Russian Kenny in the action room. Guys got balls and will play for anything and he’s entertaining as hell but when you here her talk about she needs the guys to act like pro’s if they want respect and pro money this just ain’t it to me.

On another note he also missed this nine because of a terrible stroke. The tip dives to the side at contact. You just can’t have those bad fundamentals and play on a 4 inch pocket with that pressure but I give all the respect for putting himself out there. I heard him talking on a stream after his first loss asking Jeremy honeys how he went from gambling to tournament play on that level because it’s a different kind of pressure .



 
Kenny seems a little out of place.
I also like watching him in action. He completely knows his shortcomings and is still out there trying.

For me he is entertaining and I wish him the best.
He is a handful though.
 
If they paid his entry, I have to believe they want this. Maybe Kenny will work on his professionalism..if they ask him to.
I don't care for it. I think taking the ref to the side after the game, if Kenny is somewhat in the right, would be a better approach than an outburst.
 
It is a tough job being a ref, a lot of responsibility. I get nervous just filming a hit watch.
In an earlier match, Kenny called an extension and was told he had used his already when he had not.
Kenny had to rush the shot and missed. The ref apologized and Kenny forgave him immediately.
I can understand his frustration, going off a bit while Shane is at the table was inappropriate.

I think “background movement or noise” is very different than a referee (or spectator) being still until you’re about to shoot then moving.

That said, how often the movement causes the miss and how often the movement is an after the fact excuse for the miss is a good question.
 
The best Kenny dog I've seen was about 20 years ago at the Philly Expo. He was playing a 19 or 20 year old from NYC 8 ahead for 4k. (roughly, memory fades). Opponent was in with Scooter. It was about 5am and Kenny was on the hill. It was hot, and a drop of sweat literally fell off of his forehead onto the table and made a spot. His opponent (or Scooter, I forget now) runs up to the table and points at it and starts blabbing that he's sweating and gonna dog it. Sure enough, Kenny dogs it, and the other guy comes back to win the entire set from there. I saw this with my own eyes in person.

Unfortunately, the opponent died young in his 20's or early 30's of an overdose a few years later. I can't remember his name, he hung out with Ginky's crew from what I heard. Clean cut with dark hair.

If you look at the arena that they play or any arena of tournaments, there are other tables around near by, there are other players and referees and photographers that move in front of a player taking a shot. It's all part of the game. This guy is clearly not up for it...
These are all excuses.
If we go back to the discussion of gamblers and gambler's mentality vs. athletes and athlete's mentality, well here is your answer...

If match room paid for Russian Kenny to play, they deserve every bit of his antics. I think it's what they wanted, honestly. Basically, that's what they were doing a few years ago when they were bending over backwards to put Earl on the MC team. They want to market "Americans behaving badly". I don't like it for our country; I don't like it for Matchroom; I don't like it for the player they take advantage of, and I don't like it for some young player who will behave professionally that didn't get a spot because we are saving one for a "crude American".

I don't know Russian Kenny, but I have heard his barking at the DCC. I don't wish him anything bad. I do think professional pool should look and act professionally, if we aspire that it be partnered with large corporate brands and consumed by wider audiences.

Baseball fans might retort that there is now a pitcher that jumps to the moon after strike outs. In response, I would say, I am not sure how long that will go on, but even if it does, Baseball has been a staple of American sports entertainment for years...pool has not. The road for pool is hard enough, I would prefer it not be complicated by players we know will behave unprofessionally.

If Matchroom put him in the tournament, shame on them.

i also don't know of him outside DCC action streams, but there was a video of him getting out of prison posted here. i know the type, all too well.
 
This asshat has been glorified in many forums within pool since his 6 month prison stint for peddling hard drugs. He is trash...he will screw over anybody for a dollar. Just another clown in the circus that is American pool.
