Anyone watching ESPN right now?

They're showing 3 hours of the 2005 Carolina Classic. Not sure if it's been shown before, but this is the first time I've seen it on TV. Right now Webb and Corr are playing, and they're both making a ton of mistakes, but the table looks really badass with the blue rails.

They'll be showing the tournament on ESPN from 1pm eastern time to 4pm.

The 9 ball misses by both in the earlier match was horrific. ... you like the blue table and green cloth?? I think it's distracting...

Thanks, I'm there now.

Speaking of distracting... I've seen Karen wear that shirt before. I wish she wouldn't wear that shirt....

haha, forgot to mention i don't like the combination of cloth and rail, but rather the rails.

i guess the blue rails are something different.

Neither one is playing spectacular, but the commentary is killing me.

It took a while, Ace but I finally was able to raise my eye sight and noticed she has much improved her hair too. Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii,,,,,,,,,Like It.

the match ...

That was a nice cut down the rail by the SH, but did you see the 3 rails
she went when making the 5. Why didn't she just use upper left english,
go 2 rails, and come in a line to get almost straight on the 6? The ball in
hand 3 that Corr shot was horrible for a Pro player, terrible shape for the 4.
She shot the 3 with wrong english.

I generally find that women pros are a little weak when using english to get
shape, and also that they are weak on banking difficult banks. The good men
pros would capitalize on those weaknesses.

Have you noticed that Allison's hair always makes her look like an English teenage street urchin. She needs a different cut.

I'm a big Karen Fan.

Karen Corr is an Classy Irish Lassy.
Karen & Allison are the ones who finally opened my eyes to the fact -
"WOMEN CAN PLAY REALLY GOOD POOL"!

Jean, did that for me many years ago, OHB.

Again, huge pockets. These pockets are so big that you can hit way outside and still make balls.

Everytime Mitch Lawrence says "Rocky Mountain, North Carolina" I fully expect him to say "Rocky Mountain Oysters".

The blue table is very annoying. Why can't they just stick with something classic?

This is the reason I stopped watching. If you can't make a ball in these pockets then you should try a different game.

Jump sticks? outlaw

Another point. They should not allow jump sticks. Jump the ball with your playing cue and learn to kick defensively. Both big pockets and jump sticks really ruin a good game of pool in my opinion.

That table is a brunswick Metro. I looked at one when I bought my GC IV. I didn't like the differing rail width up and down the rails of that table. Also, I don't like a wide, flat rail or a flat rail period for that matter.

Yes, they should have used blue cloth for a blue table.

Nice post, Pete.

I'd disallow all jump shots, with or without a full cue, but as onepocketchump has often noted, and correctly so, jump shots are part of the modern game, and if that's the case, the jump cue has it's place, and players need to practice using it.

Nonetheless, once upon a time, players paid a bigger price for position play errors. The jump shot has not only reduced the penalty for poor position play, but it has reduced the reward for accurately played defense, two changes that continue to rub me the wrong way, and two changes that make today's game increasingly incomparable with the game played by the old masters of the game.

My 9 year old can jump with a jump stick. This is too easy of a tool for anyone to use. Little skill required to make contact (I am not saying pocket the ball). Worse, I see so many players take out their jump stick when a much better defensive kick should have been played.
