Anything wrong with these pictures?

Pool may be regarded as a recreational activity but competitive pool is much more than that and if you want to preserve that side of it you should protect quality connected to payment.
Unless we decide to abandon competition for any kind of sport.
This opens a huge philosophical discussion and the topic of pool viewed as a sport or not, several threads were created about that in the past.
The issue here is about amauters winning more than pros, I do not know any other form of competitive sport where this phenomenon exists.
In a planet where so many millions play the game, regardless of sex and muscular abilities, in a world where this sport could really dominate there are the "organizers", people who refuse to see the future.
These are the results..
Maybe in a few years the good players that have taken the art of pool to the level we know will just stop playing, there will be only amauters to watch..
Let's hope we don't live to see that day..

Shane probably beat 8 players, and the guy in the APA probably about 10 to 12....you never get to play ALL the players that enter the tournament....

The US Open One Pocket Championship had 54 players. The entry fee was $340 with the late entry at $375. $300 from each entry went into the prize fund. CSI added $10,000. We are also always reaching out to non-pool potential sponsors (which we rarely mention).

I agree and wish Pro Pool in the US had higher numbers. I also wish the WPBA was as strong as it was 10+ years ago and that years ago the US Men's pro circuit had not imploded from it's own missmanagement.

I also am saddened that our sport has lost the Seminole Tribe, who has chosen not to continue their support of the sport (in this particular instance I do not personally or directly know their reasons, but I can guess...lack of full fields, lack of spectators and thus as a business I well imagined they decided to throw in the towel).

I have a lot of wishes for the sport. The biggest one though is that those who feel the need to tear down those who work to better the sport within their capabilites and try to bring as much as they can....stop. Opionion is one thing, propoganda is another thing all together.


rarely I roar publically, but please...if someone wishes to become a critic, please offer some constructive input instead of the pablum that sadly pervades our beloved forum too often.
 
Holly, great post. This forum may not be the best but it's all we've got. Pool in general is on the decline so we all need to do what we can to save it. Even it's contributing to a contrary forum. :thumbup:

No disrespect intended, but in this case the "US Open" is but a name. It is not a national championship run by the sports governing body as the USGA-run US Open of golf, rather it is a privately run tournament. The name sounds impressive but it is not the same as those national championships run by the USGA, R&A, RCGA, USTA, etc.

Dustin playes here against Bo Runnigan (till he moved to Calif.) and Jessy Engles,Junior,and another 15 Top players here. Dustin practices some tough match Bar Box with Jimmy Wetch(Pro) This brings him his good luck(tough Practice) to beat the hundreds he did beat . mark

Where I am from, hardly anyone plays one pocket and don't really care

to. Now APA, there are hundreds of players and it isn't free to play.

The weekly fees and yearly dues cost a lot of money. It's nice they

have a chance to get some of it back.



Now explain to me why Shane deserves so much money when not many

people are involved and don't care for the game of one pocket?


Seems Shane must like the payout since he is playing.



Lots of amateur players work full time and are almost as good as a pro

player. They work during the week and play tournaments on

weekends...weekend warriors.
 
The costructive input is simple:
Do organize amateur tournaments, but don't offer such high prices.
In a long run this is very bad for the industry, which in turn it won't be able to support the sport in the way it needs to.
An amateur that earns more mone than a pro will never spend enough through the industry in order to improve, does not have to.
He gets rewarded for not improving and the pro gets punished.
In no other sport there is such a phenomenon..
In life there is an ethical limit between making a profit and destroying a sport in the process..

wow ! just wow !

there have been numerous threads on here complaining about the payout in leagues, apa in particular.

now we have a thread complaining about an apa player getting a bigger check than svb.

wow ! i dont know what to say.
