If anyone cares, they are streaming the Open Division on the official APA Youtube channel -->

Jeremy Jones is doing commentary and I have to say, very nice production so far. They've come a long way since I remember seeing this being held at the hall in Florida all those years. For a second, I had thought this was being ran alongside the International Open.

Daniel Gamble from Hickory, NC, shown in this just completed match, occasionally plays in our Monday night 9-ball handicapped tournament at Family Billiards. We rate him one ranking higher than all other top rated players - he has to win 5 games before we win 4.

He shoots a strong game and has won a few of our tournaments, but with our handicap system, he’s also had some early exits. He’s a very nice guy.

In addition to advancing to a pro event, each Champion will receive a magnificent trophy and event duffel bag.

Both Champions receive a one year free APA membership and are invited to return to the Championship Round the following year to defend their titles. Returning Champions also receive complimentary airline travel, courtesy of APA.

The winners receive paid travel*, lodging and entry into a pro event.
*Ground transportation (cab, rental car, etc.) will be at player’s expense.

Derek swagger (I think that’s how you spell it ) is from our area. He made the final 4 last year and won the amateur at the super billiards expo. Nice guy and a hell of a player. I know he won last night so he’s still in it today

I would like to add that my great friend Stacie Bourbeau repeated as ladies champion. I believe this is the first for the US amateurs. This is Stacie‘s third US amateur title! It’s pretty spectacular considering Stacie is really a part-time player comparatively speaking. I don’t know that Stacie has a table at home, and often times she wnot play on a big table for quite some time. She made the diamond tables look relatively easy, and played better than the 613 Fargo that she is. We all have ups and downs in our game since we’re amateurs, and I’m glad to have seen that she was in top gear this tournament. I only saw the finals, but there was no way people gonna beat her without being. a 650 Fargo themselves.

I’ve known Stacie now for 40 years as she’s from my home area in Massachusetts. She was my BCAPL teammate for a few years, and I sort of forced her to play the Super Billiard Expo tourney for her first time so many years ago (15-20.) to expand her tournament horizon (by paying her entry and not letting her object). She came in 2nd her first time and since that time has won that event as well. She’s a New England Billiard Hall of Famer (I and others nominated her through Tom McGonagle when he used to post here), and should always be in the conversation when talking about great amateur women players across North America. US Amateurs, BCA League Masters, SBE ….

Congratulations, Stacie!

Very nice write up for a friend!

I watched that match and she played really well. Smart and smooth. Made tough shots look easy. She steamrolled in the final 9-1

James is my realtor. He and his family are good friends with my cousin. Really good, humble dude. And a monster of a player.

Brett took it down. Congrats buddy.

I wish the leagues would crosscheck player ratings with Fargo, 700 is a bit high for an amateur league that can max out the handicap at about 550/600. 600 to 700 is a doubling of the handicap in Fargo but it's even for the APA. They are just un-officially called "super 7s" which does not help their opponents much LOL
Also to check for sandbaggers. In the APA team finals last year, one of the teams had a 630 Fargo that was an APA 5 which was pointed out in the chat. I'm sure the other players had Fargo ratings that were not quite in line with their APA handicap.

All those guys would be giving a "normal" 7/9 a several game handicap in a Fargo event or if gambling, and not surprising the higher Fargo won it. There is probably a very good reason the leagues don't want their player info in Fargo, it will show how broken their player ratings are. It should be like checking references for a job or some other application, imagine buying a car and they take your word on your credit rating and income without checking with another source.

I agree but if you look at the field, most of these guys are 600+ players. I was bored so I checked a dozen or so and only found a couple sub 600.

A 630 APA-5 is god tier sandbagging. We have a Fargo 524 SL-7 on our team. No doubt within the APA system a low-end SL-7 isn't going anywhere in tournaments.

Agreed and if you add in the 9 foot Diamonds, the likelihood goes down even further depending on the equipment that they are used to playing on.

I know a 530ish guy (high robustness) who is an SL7/9. Getting to SL7 at that Fargo is fairly common in some areas but I'm struggling to see how he's an established SL9. I always thought that was more the realm of people who are approaching or just over 600.
