APA in your area is a joke Bobby Mcgrath should not even be alowed to play i mean come on isnt he a master player i mean if he playes a 5 he only has to go to 5 in league to win. I will put my house on Bobby with no alcahol to win the single again Jimmy the league Operator dont tell me theres not sandbaging there. I play for his galesburg team we won last sesion and are in first now and i can tell you no one in peoria or pekin knows the speed of the players here, but our 7's do know your hot shots up there its sad when the referee who shoots a sporty game does not go up:D i have a guy here who won the first week in front of Jimmy and some lady who runs it with him the kid started as a4 he one his first match 3 to 0 they moved him up to a 5 he has one 1 of his last 8 matches another player played as a 7 for 2 sessions with a winninfg record he is now a 6:confused: got to love APA. AMERICAN SANDBAG LEAGUE

For reference i have since went up to a 7 in 8ball and bobby has never won singles in the apa or even qualified to play in vegas in the apa... and for sandbagging the worst is probably the galesburg area since it is new and most players dont even have 20 scores in the apa it is easy for players to go up and down

Just a few thoughts on some of your thoughts. Being a master level player is not a basis for eligibility in th APA. Bobby is a friend of mine and while I agree he is probably the best if not right near the top of the list of bar table players in the state, sober or not, he does not have to win the tournament in Vegas. The level of competition in the 7's bracket is pretty brutal. The best player rarely wins. I personally hope you're right and he does win it. JMO

oh and most of our 7's will know the good players in galesburg too such as Mark Hammerl, Brad Simpson, Scott Lariot and so on there should be a couple good match ups in the city tournament with those players and players from pekin and bloomington such as Jim Logothetis, Bobby Vallas, Mike Dunklin, Larry Miller, Duke Shaw, Terry Martin

Slight threadjack....still can't get on local (APA) site (for stats, etc.). Emailed Maggie a couple of weeks ago.

back to topic....good luck in Vegas. As for the whole Bobby thing - winning the singles title would be impressive after taking down the VNEA 9 ball - :D And, I for one am looking forward to seeing new blood at the city tourney (welcome Galesburg)....

And Josh, Craig is no push over 7 either, and if Suits is on (dancing around the table :) ). LOOK OUT - lol .

When I was in Vegas, there was what seemed to be a drunk guy in a chicken suit asking people for money games.

Who was that?!

Wasnt tryin to get off on the rong foot i was trying to say as a whole it is a sandbag league. Although i do support the APA in out area and i do know Bobby as well Hell of a player him and Donnie come down to all the tourneys as well as Dunklin. I was not trying to state peoria in general as i read my post i know it sounds like it i apologize. As far as the talent here our best players dont even play in the APA league they still play the Knox county league. Mark was on my team and is no longer in APA Brad simpson is in Germany and just dropped out of the league Scott Laird is on my team still i do agree the match ups should be good cant wait to see you there. And you are right Bobby didnt win the apa he won the hardest field The vnea masters and took the spreed pool event.:D

I'll be there supporting a couple of friends that won their divisions. I lost mine by 2 balls. :( But I will be playing in some mini's and going to a lot of the Dr. Cue and Allison instructional/demonstration forums.

Is there going to be any place where AZrz will be meeting down there? Perhaps we should do something at the Poolapalooza party Sat night?

Im down for grabbing a drink. We *team dan hahah* fly into Vegas April 30, leave May 6th.

So far we have show tickets on wednesday the 30th for KA but other then that, just going to try and stay focused but would like to play some higher SL players in practice to warm up for my opponents.

I noticed on the 8 ball roster, the lady that won my division last year SL 4-5 8 ball. Is in it again, and again at a SL4 after winning a 160+ player tournament. Not bad!

gotgame...This is just a blatent misstatement! Overall, the APA leagues across the country are not overrun with sandbaggers. Any league with any kind of handicapping will always have people who try to 'cheat' the system. For sandbagging to happen, there have to be two conditions met: 1) BOTH teams have to allow it in a match (your team can report it to the LO); and 2) the L.O. has to not care. There are several safeguards within the APA to deal with this issue, if people really want to.

No sandbaggers in APA, unbelievable:eek: !

I just played the SWC. I played a 3. I broke, didn't make a ball and she ran out in ZERO innings!

The next match I played another 3. A different 3 ran out on me in ONE inning.

I must really sux or maybe I should be a 2.

hilla_hilla...Read my post. I didn't say there were NO sandbaggers. I just said that the APA overall is not overrun with them, and I stand by that!

Actually, this is the first year that I did bad in Vegas and I've played as a 5 there the last 4 years. Maybe it was bad luck.

Scott is absolutely right, the APA is not over-run with sandbaggers but it does exist, as it does in EVERY handicap pool league. APA does have programs in place to deal with these issues but it takes the co-operation of all Team Captains to correctly fill out the score sheets and their respective League Operators to use these programs to make it effective.

I'll be in Vegas from April 28 to May 3rd and would love to get together with other AZers over a drink, pool table or ....

It's not that there are sandbaggers. As Scott pointed out, it would be mostly impossible to stop them entirely. My biggest complaint is that once you *are* in vegas. When the matches are being watched by those floating super-refs. Even when someone is obviously playing way above their true SL. The ref's are very unwilling/unlikely to DQ anyone or any team. The negative backlash for such a thing to happen is so immense that it is against the APA's interests to DQ. My team did ok last year in the team, and we lost to a team that had a 5 who's nickname was "the hammer". They had one of those undercover ref guys watching the game because of previous complaints. After the match we were told, by that ref that it's possible they would get DQ'd. No such luck. The guy played better than the 7 and two 6's on my team by a long shot.

The kind of shots this guy was pulling off and getting shape on were sick. And it's not like the team was surprised, they expected this level of play from their little "closer".

I am looking forward to the singles event (where I'll be playing in the SL7 bracket). But I know I'm likely to get smoked being that I'm definitely on the weaker end of the spectrum.

Still - it's a free trip! I view playing in the APA as something where I'd like to get something back out of it, free trips to vegas every so often offset the money spent playing in the league. I've had people leave my team beause they didn't like such a competitive environment, but why play if you don't even care about winning your trips to vegas?

sorry no Allison!

I talked to Allison at Valley Forge and told her my wife SL2 9 B won her way to singles in may.
she said she was not renewed by APA and will not be there!

Unless things changed that is what it is!
Let me know the times for meeting up and where!
