APA/CPA singles, May 2008 Las Vegas

The APA does in fact disqualify both individual players and whole team every year at their National events and the teams that are in the money forfeit said money and then it is distributed to the teams they beat. Behind the scenes at these events are a whole staff of people that do nothing but handicap review of all matches played plus they also rely on the on floor watchers for input. Again, they do not catch everyone just as the police do not catch all criminals but they do have an efficient program in place at these National events. I feel they should be more public with this aspect of theNational tournaments but there may in fact be some sort of liability issue I am not aware of.
The fact as you stated is "it's a free trip to Vegas" and who doesn't usually have fun in Vegas. APA is not perfect but it is a fun competive league.

Here's a particular personal beef. SL2 on my team, plays a match. She ends up winning 2-0 against a 4. The 4, in both games, ran most of the balls on the table, safetied herself on the 8, went for a risky kick and scratched instead. My player sunk a total of 4 balls. She was then raised from a 2 to a 3 (which is now *permanent* because it happened in vegas). I appealed to the TD, he would not change her back to a 2. Raising someones SL for a, basically, null and void win is ridiculous. Then to sit there and tell me it's too bad (after looking up her stats and reviewing them for all of 2 minutes). I understand that there's something in the "formula" about win percentage contributing especially heavily to the 2 vs 3 SL, however this just boggles my mind - to this very day. Now this player is a weak 3 at best - so either I have to hope she gets better (a player that never practices and only plays the one league match, perhaps every other week) or kick her off the team for no good reason.
I don't see how anyone could really think that's a rational decision. There were no safeties played - my player essentially did not play in this match at all.

Its there. Its there in a big way. BUT people have to remember that THEY THEMSELVES are NOT the barmoter to measure everyone in the country against.
A person rated a 5 in Arizona or California may be a legitimate 5 in his or her area. But that person may play much stronger than a 5 from Massachusetts or Maine depending on the overall caliber of play of the people in your area.
So if you lose to a 6 who is much better than you (and you happen to be a 6), don't accuse them of sandbagging. They might not be!

Wow...That is sad news. Allison Fisher is a great role model for the APA league players, and for them to not 'renew' her contract seems very odd. It certainly can't be because they are "short of funds" in St. Louis! 
Too bad...Maybe Allison will be picked up by the BCAPL, like Shane was!

whenever i look at the paperwork at the end of a night, i rarely see defensive shots marked. usually the only time i see them is when there is a match that has many of these shots back to back by both players. marking these down religiously will help solve some of the problem.

Okay, the misconception is that once a player is raised in Vegas that player can never drop below that s/l. This is not correct, St. Louis will in fact allow your LO to drop a players skill level but this decision is not made lightly and there must be a track record of a player not being able to compete at the higher s/l over time. If this is the case with your player then this is what you need to do:
Email your league operator with the following request--on behalf of my player (name & player number) please sent a NLA/HA Request Form to St. Louis. Then explain to your LO why you feel this request is valid and then request that he send you also via email what the outcome of this request was. St. Louis will send the LO an email with their decision so it should be no problem for him to forward it to you.

I'll be there as a 4. Anyone know what they mean when they say "prize package valued at 7600"? Just wondering what they paid out. When I won the regional's I thought it was a cash prize....guess I was wrong. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I will be at the very top of the 6-7 bracket because I won the regional 4-5 board and got bumped up.
I dont think there will be any weaker 6 than I, but hey, I still got 3 weeks to learn something.Good Luck to everyone going!

JJ, Im up for some practice on the thursday morning if you want to face a semi-decent 4-5 player.

There are only 73 (approx of 160ish) SL4 in my division and Im on the low end of being a SL5 so odds are if I keep winning, do I keep playing 4's? Since they rate the players low to high and whatnot.

semi-decent is open to re-evaluation in my case. haha.
