APA Forum

Taking an idea for the One Pocket forum thread the other day, does anyone think it would be a good idea to have an APA or generic League Forum?

Seems like there is a very distinct group of people looking for that type of info on here. (Actually seems like there is another group that just enjoys bashing people asking league questions ).

Anyway it just seems like the same topics come up again and again and if there was an area dedicated to that in a positive way it could be a good thing. The main problem now is if you search APA it returns no results as it too common of a term with it being in other words, etc (I would assume).

Anyway just a suggestion.

Actually, I don't really like the idea of sub-dividing the forums too much. This is for general pool discussions, and league is a big part of pool. I prefer having just one forum to search through. Most of the time, I have a pretty good idea which threads I want to follow based on the subject line.

This is a great question, IMO. Although I like the idea personally, overall, I think it would be bad for the forum because you would most likely split the two major audiences of the forum. Most people would gravitate to one of the forums and only occasionally, if at all, check the other one, which would be bad overall for AZBilliards.

Personally, I think the "League Forum" would be much busier and we would get some of the current lurkers involved because they would be less likely to feel intimidated in asking questions.

No, APA is ultimately bad for pool.

Why do you think the APA is bad for pool. The APA does more to get people playing competetive pool than any other organization in the US. How can that be BAD.

I think I have to disagree with your statement, especially the part in bold. The APA, for years has done nothing but simply offer a league for people to play in. Their handicap system is a joke, the tournaments are a joke and the payouts are a joke. I have a good feeling that Mr. Griffin's USA Pool League will eventually take a large percentage of the APA's players. Its an overall better system and helps to cut out sand-bagging and other biased rankings. Plus the simple fact that Mr. Griffin will be running it allows me to bestow a great deal of confidence in the success of his new venture.

When he takes over the largest organized pool league in the US, let me know.

As far as the handicap, I've seen worse, their tournaments are a blast, and the payouts are small, but, if your playing league for cash payouts, then I feel for you.

This post is one more reason why an APA forum would be good, IMO

I think a better way of stating would be "disorganized" pool league. You can have the largest. I'll go ahead and be in the one that gives more money back to the players, has a higher level of competition and the one with more potential for growth.

Yes but there should be a rule that if you post in that forum you can ONLY post in that forum (and maybe NPR lawl!)

This thread is actually turning into a pretty good example of why people probably don't post about leagues here. Generally these turn into debates about the merit of the league, its handicap system, etc instead of answering the original question, which is why I thought it might get more people posting etc. If the only people looking at it where involved with it or curious about it. Just making a general suggestion to try to get more people involved.

My thoughts exactly.

An APA website forum would not be bad but not here. This is more of
a free for all pool room atmosphere.

IMO we are already a little too divided.

I like seeing the different topics and learning things I might not have known had there been a seperation.

I'll pose a question to you sir, would you play in a Pool League that only had the best players in the area, S/L 6 or better, no handicaps, Race to 7, play 8 ball and 9 ball the same night, with no coaching or timeouts allowed, it's man or woman, mono a mono, would something like that interest you for $13.00 dollars per match? How much do you spend a week just in table time alone unless you have a table at home.

Just curious please answer honestly. :poke:

Most APA Leagues have their own website which have a forum for their members. My forum at www.100balls.com/forum is used by hundreds of APA members in our community.

Regarding payouts.. I totally with the person that said if you are playing League to make money then you really are missing the point entirely. For 99.999% of people here, pool is a hobby that we enjoy with friends. We get our money from our day jobs. For the 0.001% here that live off pool, I would not expect to see them in an APA League, but going for money tournament/pro tours etc etc.

LOVE your Avatar!

The APA is good for pool.

What I dont understand,(and frankly,it just annoys me) why people down the APA so much. Dont people realize if it wasnt for the league teams in the rooms and league houses, some of these establishments would be closed down!!!!!!
As far as making a separate APA forum. I dont think it is a good idea. Why? Are some players to good to have the APA on this forum??? Do they feel bothered by APA threads??
I played APA years ago, and have decided to be a sub this session. I want to support the house where I play. I dont consider myself an APA player full time. But I am going to damn well defend what contributes to keeping our rooms open, so ALL OF US can still play this game WE all love.
IMO, there is room for EVERYONE!!!!!!

Walked into my room two weeks ago, and the APA Citys Finals were being played. (the winner goes to Vegas!!!!) Our regular sunday tourney was being played in the back room.(APA had the area where they usually play our sunday tourney) A few minutes later the front area went crazy with yelling and hollering of victory screams from the winning team. The guys in our regular sunday tourney looked annoyed from all the screaming!!! (one in particular) I looked at some of them and said, "see those people out there", those are the players who pay the bills". Nobody said a word.!

I consider myself a serious player. And I will keep on supporting and defending the institution that allows me to keep playing the sport I love so much!!!!!!!

Ok, Im done. LOL

APA is the only game in town here. I'm not willing to drive an hour to play pool on a work night (getting home at 1am) when I can go to a variety of places within 20 minutes of my house and play. It is also next to impossible to get table time on Monday Tuesday or Thurday here because the league is going those nights. That's 14 teams a night x 5 players x $6.00 league fee x bar/food tabs at the venues = a lot of money and economic activity.

I don't think we need a league sub forum any more than we need a political sub forum in the NPR.

I'd love to play in a nonhandicap league, regardless of how good the competion is. If they are better than I am, it's only a matter of time before I will catch up and surpass them. Obviously there will always be someone better than I, but I will still strive to surpass him.
