APA Mini Mania worth the effort?

Mini mania

The minis are opened 24 hours ahead of time so make sure you read the schedule and are looking for a match for the following day. Those are the people standing in the 300 person line ahead of you!! They post the minis on a big movie screen once they start selling the positions for that mini. They all go by the # in the mini schedule. If your standing around and notice that a mini is available already on the screen you BYPASS the line and can go directly to the counter and pay. The people in line are waiting for a mini that is just being released for 24 hours from now. It is better to buy in even if you might have a conflict when the mini goes off. You can always sell your spot but make sure you do it at least a half hour before the MINI starts. These are just my suggestions but the minis do offer some good matches and you get to meet people from all parts of the country.

Ps Try to keep a count of how many dollars you put in the tables for the week, it can easily be $100- $150 if your playing all week

Have fun, whats your team name, I'll come down and sweat some matches, Good Luck, Gordon 425-275-8255 LAS VEGAS

Alright here's everything anyone needs to know about mini's in Vegas from a guy who has been there too many times JUST to play mini's.

The price for most mini's is $20 with a 16 player field. There are some $10 boards but those are usually for the lower rated players. (123 in 9 and 2-3 in 8) and those events are usually 8 players. Some events are $50 but those are usually for higher skill levels (8-9 in 9ball and 7 only in 8ball). Doubles are either $20 per team or $40 per team and are either 16 Team boards or 32 team boards respectively. In the doubles there is scotch doubles, where you make a ball then its your partners turn, and there is doubles where you shoot till you miss. In the 8-ball mini's the races are the same as normal APA play. In 9 ball the races are modified, I'm not positave of every skill level modification all I know is as a 9 I go to 65 instead of 75. Just a tip for you higher ranked players 9 ball mini's can get expensive since you pay $1 for every game.

Payouts are 100%. On a $20 buy in 1st gets $160 2nd gets $80 and two people get $40 for third. So win two matches you aqre in the money. (based on a 16 player board)

Yes the rumor is true you can only book mini's 24 hours out and you must be present to sign up. (No sending your buddy up while you play some craps) Mini's sell out pretty quick so I reccomend signing up 24 hours out. Now a lot of the time events come up for sale. Like If someone gets a little tipsy the night before they may try to sell their 9am mini. They give their receipt to the announcer and they annouce it over the loud speaker and the first person to yell for it gets it. As a tip I would memorize the event number you want if you are trying to buy an event because they usually say the event number first before what the event is so if you hear the right number scream at the top of your lungs "SOLD" and you'll get it.

Mini's are fun and go all day. They do take 4 hours to complete. A lot of people decide to split the finals instead of playing them this way each person gets $120.

Anyways hope to see you all at the payout table!!!

8 ball races are the same.

I played in the 9 ball scotch doubles once but dont' recall what the points races were in those. It varies depending on the total team skill level. IIRC, the higher skill levels went to something like 46 points (6 normal level) and the others scaled down from there.

I think they have doubles (each player shoots until they miss) and then scotch doubles events (alternate after each shot).

This is not the race in vegas. Also, I mis spoke when I said I go to 65 as a 9 I go to 66 as a 9 in Vegas.

Most doubles races are to the game not the point and they are usually a race to three dispite your handicap.

Those are the races they use for the 9-ball doubles team tourney. I can't imagine that they do something different in Mini-Mania.

I love the mini-mania. I've gone to Vegas a couple of times just to play in it. Yes, the payback is 100%. Single elimination. Particpants limited to 16, so beginning to end is quite fast = Nice.

They do!

The last time I went I played a 7 in a 9 ball mini and she only had to goto46-49 somewhere in that area I think. She played awesome when she actually got to the table....
