A fresh perspective
Good on you DD!! really nice to hear a fresh perspective. I have not thought of the match up in this light. I too try to help out lower ranked players, but have always done it after matches.
I guess my point was as an 8, I have to give a lot of weight. Until I get my spread, gonna be running balls and playing safeties. Never having a shot and constantly kicking at balls is tough for some. Hell I've had to hold the rack in my hand for 4-5 racks, and although I enjoyed the show the player was putting on, I would rather have had an openings!
I was playing as a 6 in eight after taking several years off of pool altogether for a few years.
There were teams that would throw their threes against me simply because they figured nobody on their team had a good chance at beating me.
I like to think that I did make it fun for the lower level players. The only reason I played APA was because I saw a lot of people who didn't really have a ton of tools, but enjoyed playing. I figured that I could impart some knowledge while getting back in stroke.
One of my happiest moments was after a game when a guy slammed a ball trying to draw back and failing, I gave him one tip to try. Next game he beat me when a very similar draw situation came up and he made perfect shape.
