Hi Chris,

Just qualified at 1 AM Sunday morning after a near fourteen hour ordeal. Six matches. Lost the first 5 -1. Played all the way across the one loss side. Just played better and better as the day grew longer . Made my flight reservations yesterday. Arrive in Vegas around noon on Wednesday. Even though APA gives me a room at the Riv, probably stay at my house instead. I'll be on one of the 7's board. Look me up!

I just received an email from my 8-ball team captain. He qualified for Vegas over the weekend.
Congrats to him and everyone else who qualified.

see u in vegas

Me and my practice partner qualified in huntsville al yesterday...we play out of bumpers in birmingham

I played in Big Shots 2 this weekend for the regionals. Made all the way to the finals on the 5 board. Then I gave the guy an E8 for one of the games and slow rolled the cueball on the unlevel tables for a safety that clearly curved about a balls length to brush off the ball I was aiming out and make the cueball scratch. This in turn broke out the 8ball and he proceeded to run out the last 2 balls to win the match...

Was a very frustrating match but I went last year and the guy who beat me has never been.

i qualified last night for the 4s tournament. will be my first time to go. looking forward to the experience

I'm in it for 8b.

If we get matched up, take it easy on me, ok?

Congrats to the rest of you guys and see you there.

You know, I've played in the APA for a a long time, since it was the Busch league, I have never played in a singles board. Tell me, am I missing out on anything?

Only the easiest way to get to Vegas for APA. You play a little singles qualifier, which gets you directly to regionals. Then you play in your regional bracket.. I think my 8b bracket had like 14 people and I've even seen the lower s/l brackets with as few as 9 or 10 people. Win that and you get to play in Vegas. I've made it 3 times now. Played like a dog missing 3 legs the last time I went.

Is this the only way to qualify for the Vegas nationals? As APA members, we can't just sign up for the Nationals. BTW, I'm a newbie to APA so I'm not well-versed on how APA tournaments work.

I would like to go to Vegas for the Nationals but my league doesn't have a local qualifier.

Yeah, they only way to get to Vegas for APA singles is to win a spot.

The L.A. area has no qualifier? That would be very surprising. I think if you check out the national site, there is information available to show you how to host a qualifier. Basically, you'd need like 4 people to make a small board, I think, then the top person would go to regionals. From there, all of the people that made their qualifier would play in their brackets. If you have, say, 24 people in a bracket, I think, then the top 2 would go to Vegas. The brackets are broken up into..

For 8b: 2/3, 4, 5, 6/7
For 9b: 1/2/3, 4/5, 6/7/8/9

This next year, 6s will have their own bracket in 8b. Last I saw, the 6/7 bracket is freakin big.

I also checked the national site to see who all was qualified so far. I see players from Northridge and San Diego, but nothing from L.A., so I'm thinking that the regional must be recent so they don't have that info yet. It's hard to believe that they don't have one at all.

You can still drive out and play in the mini tournaments if you want, but that's a long 5 hour drive for some minis.

Hi Chris,

Congrats on your win and 2nd trip back to Vegas. My partner and I qualified the other month and this will be my first time going out to Vegas for pool. I recently joined the APA League and I cannot express how elated I am, who knew pool could be so much fun! I heard they have mini mania tournaments you can play in, if so, does anyone know how they work? April needs to get here quick!! Congrats to all others that will be there :)

Zpele, I was also at Big Shots 2 this weekend. What did you think of the place? I wish they had managed the spectator situation a bit better. It was too bad for the people that wanted to watch, because it was damn near impossible without getting right into the playing area around the tables. They probably could have arranged the layout better. The tables were in pretty poor shape as well, but at least were a similar model, cloth, balls, etc. to Vegas. Overall not too bad.

I won my bracket as well in 9 ball. I was on the last bracket. Some super strong players in there. I really played some great bar box 9 ball. It was overall a very enjoyable tournament, and would have been even if I lost. Very courteous and friendly opponents...just a nice experience overall. This will be my second time for 9 ball. You'll get it next year!

PS...can't slow roll on those tables!

Yes. It is a higher level of competition. The more "serious" players tend to play in the singles. It is overall a pretty cool tourney and perfect for someone looking to take a step up in their APA journey.

There was one this weekend held in Yucaipa Ca. I believe the LA area is split up and qualified players are sent to the one I mentioned, san diego and maybe one on the west/noWest of LA.

I have played in both Simi Valley and San Diego to try and qualify for nationals.

I know San Bernardino APA and San Gabriel both have qualifiers throughout the year.
