So let me start by saying this is my first apa tournament. It was the local tournament for the opportunity to play in the regional tournament for Vegas. I only have about 12 games in apa 9 ball. These are 8 man single elimination tournaments. I never had to really keep score and was lucky the first two rounds because someone else did until the finals...
So here is what happened. I'm playing in the finals against a 6 and I'm an 8. So I have to get to 65 before he gets to 46. With the score being either 10 10 or 11 9 I look up after breaking and see our league operator looking at our score sheet and my opponent gone. I said where did he go. He responds to the bathroom. Whos gets marked for innings. I said I don't know. I won the break ...he says okay and that's it. He doesn't mark anything. Now if he would have stopped it right there and said you guys have to mark innings even in a tournament (which btw my opponent should have known ...he's been playing apa for a while) I would have started the match over ... No big deal our fault. But he said nothing and btw looked at the score sheet like 6 or 7 more times during the match and never said a word that we weren't marking anything but balls made UNTIL I'm winning 62 to I think 24 and aiming an 8 9 combo with the 9 laying in the hole to put me on the hill with the break. He says you guys have to play this over! You weren't counting innings. I said wth didn't you say that early in the match when you were keeping score ? he didn't answer. Just insisted we had to play over. I played a rack or two but then forfeited. I was to angry we played for nothing and the fire was out. Being the player I am I PROMISE you If I was being beaten like that I would have shook my opponents hand and said dude you played great and deserve to win and forfeited. I feel I was the only one punished because he got a 2nd chance and before that it was over and he knew it.
I do take responsibility for not keeping score right being new to this league. I did think about it for a moment half way through the match but then thought well the league operator didn't say anything so maybe you don't have to for a tournament. How the hell do I know lol. I'm new to this!
Oh well. I only have one more match in apa unless my team makes it to the tri cups. I only played for my wife and while it was fun the 9 ball apa is really set up for lower level players and punishes you for being good which at its base is my fundamental problem.
