I witnessed a guy (SL4) beat another guy (SL4) 31-4 in a 9-ball match. What's the worst beating you've ever put on someone in an APA game?

These players were new to the APA league and it was their first game.

My girlfriend SL4 just this past weekend at TriCup put a 31-1 beating on a SL2 in 6 innings. Given its a 2 doesnt say too much but was nice to watch!

The week before last, we had a new guy player, so starting as a SL4, only get three balls when playing against a SL1!

He was down to a SL2 the next week; I had heard that guys cannot be SL1 -- does anyone know if that's true?

I think it's that there are no s/l male 1's for higher level tournaments. I've had a male s/l 1 on a team before, I believe, and it was here in Portland.

If you want to play, I'll take whatever spot you're offering.

For the record, I've never skunked anybody, but I was skunked once the first year I played. :o

I beat a SL5 20-0. I was playing as a SL6. I don't remember the extact score.

When I was a SL6 I once beat another SL6 20-0 (I don't remember how many/few balls he made though). I was in the zone that night and, well.......he wasn't.

Beat a SL5 55-3 it was a good day. :)

In 8 ball / beat a SL7 5-0 5 innings

the worst beating i put on someone in 9 ball was 46-10. i was a 6 playing a 5.
the worst beating i have taken was getting 5-0'd in 8 ball in 1 inning by jeff crawford. i won the lag, broke and ran out but scratched on the 8. he ran the next 3 racks. in the 5th game he broke dry (the end of his first inning), i ran to the 8 and missed, he ran out. brutal i tell ya.
the worst apa 9 ball beating i heard of i wish i had witnessed, but i have heard the same story from 3 different people on 3 different nights so i'll take it as true until i find out different. terry stewart playing as a 9 beat another 9 in a singles event at cues billiards in canton GA 75-3. the 9 he allegedly beat is a very strong player so that score is pretty impressive.

My team had two or three 18-2's this session, and those were against 5's.

Personally, I've been shut out in 8-ball before, tho I cant recall taking too bad a beating in 9-ball, maybe 14-6. I think I put an 18-2 on someone once, an SL4 that was just coming back to league after a while away.

i had been contemplating starting a thread about come from behind victories, i think what i am about to post will fit in with the theme of this thread.

for the last month or so i have been in a funk about starting out real slow in my matches. you know the usual missing easy shots or getting out of shape or hooking yourself.

i am a 5 and last fri i was playing a 4. he had me down 20-7. i was missing like crazy and he was not missing much. in the 4th rack i came alive and won 38-28. my captain said she did not think there was any way in the world i was gonna win that match. she said from the 4th rack on i scored 31 to his 8.

i told her if you remember right i been doing this a lot lately. 9 ball tri cups i am playing a 7. he has me 18-2. i come back and win 38-32. 2 weeks ago i was playing a 5, he had me 17-3, i won 38- 26. had a few other matches like these. except 3 weeks ago when i never got it together and a 4 beat me 31-22. i could not make shit and he was on fire lol.

playing that 7 that had me 18-2 i wound up scoring 36 to his14. against that 5 where i was down 17-3 i scored 35to his 9. i guess you could call the last half of those matches beat downs.

for the record none of those come from behinds had any break and runs in them. i just started getting in stroke making balls and playing safe when i needed to. i have never had a break and run in 9 ball, come close a couple of times late in the match but the scorekeeper would say game over , you reached your points, grrrr.

got about a dozen break and runs in 8 ball the last 2 1/2 years in apa though.:D

same here dub, been shut out in 8 ball buncha times. never skunked in 9 ball but have had my share of bad games.

Stomped

I got destroyed by a 7 in 9 ball (I was an 8) in APA team Vegas. I finally got to the table down 31-0 and had a kick shot at the 5. Missed, he runs out, finally rattles the 4 in the next rack and finally worked it to a 17-3, whatever that was for me. Holy cow it was horrible. We got lucky and our 3 pulled it out in the 5th race against the guys girlfriend. I bought them drinks every time I saw them that night at the Riv. I felt terrible because she was shaking so bad she couldn't hold the cue and cried like a baby when she lost because of all the pressure.

I'm curious to see how I would fair against an APA SL7 or 8 in 9ball. A friend of mine is an SL4 and we decided to play tonight. I've never played APA 9ball or am ranked, so I tried looking up the handicap system and all I found was a lot of nothing.

Anyways, I ran the first 3 racks and made another 6 balls before I dogged one and he scored his first point. When I made it to 46, he had 6. When I made it to 55, he had 13. And when I made it to 75, he had 23.

3 pack

Typically they start everyone as a four but if you run 2-3 racks as the norm you would move up quickly to a 8 or a 9 in no time. They don't allow roll outs which evens it out a bit (in a bad way/not real 9 ball) and it gets frustrating when you break all night but lose because of "points"

Nice Thread.

In general I hate APA 9 ball. But I do have a cool beat down story.

At the time I was a SL6 playing a SL 4. First rack I break, get to and then shoot in the 3 ball. All of the sudden the other teams extremely drunk SL 2 jumps up and calls FOUL saying I didn't hit the 3 ball first. There was nothing even close about the shot. After a quick discussion it was determined that I didn't foul. For whatever reason the drunk guy's actions didn't sit well with me and I shoot pretty well when I get pissed off.

Long story short the score is 43-0 before the poor SL4 ever makes a ball. I end up beating him 46-3 for a 20-0 skunk. Been an over ranked 7 ever since.

Best I've ever done in 8 ball was beating a weak SL7 4-0 in 4 innings. Can't stand that SL7 so there might be something to this theory about me shooting well when I'm pissed.

That being said, GO TAP, friends don't let friends play APA

Not allowing a push out is stupid. I could see someone breaking dry, opponent runs a few balls, and you get back to the table to make 3-4 points would be a PITA.

My thought process was a bit different, setting up for a simple combination turned into playing shape for the next lowest ball.

I've given some pretty good beat downs, I'm a skill level 7 but I bounce back and forth between 7-8. This particular beating was in a vegas team qualifier tournament 1 match from the finals, our first SL 4 had lost 12-8 and our SL 2 got smoke by another 2 17-3, they put up there 6 who is there best player thinking they can cruise to the finals with a 29-11 lead. My wife (our captain) puts me up and tells me, "if your gonna play good, now is the time". The switch turned on or something, cause I could do no wrong, I ended up beating the guy 55-5 in 7 innings. 20-0 skunk, after I shook his hand I went and asked the wife if that was what she had in mind? All the other team had left to play were two 4's that were probably over rated, my wife (SL-4) and our SL-5 took care of business after that. Thats the only time I've skunked anyone in apa 9-ball, I've had some 19-1's and 18-2's. the worst I've been beat is 17-3, but I avenged that beating later in the same session. In apa 8-ball, I have skunked and been skunked.

Yep, I hate the no push out rule. It's like your being punished for making a ball on the break if you get hooked. In the apa masters you can push though, figure that out. I guess it would be too confusing for the lower skill levels. Also the US amatures tourney uses the apa masters rules.
