(APA) What's the worst beating put in an SL4 in a 9-ball match?

She's actually only broke and ran a few times ever. She has only been playing 2 years and got good faster than her handicap can keep up. She will probably be a 5 any day, and I'm sure she won't stop there.

I do know what you mean. Our room has a 5 who has only been playing 6 months. He's getting instruction and I think in another 6 months he may hit 7.

There's also a female three... it drives me nuts, she has perfect fundamentals but just isn't really into pool.
It's absolutely gross how she'll drill in a long cut with the cue ball stuck to the head rail and the OB in the middle of the table. With good fundamentals to start, the sky's the limit.

seriously man a 2 through 4 in my area is just trying to make balls. Trying to teach someone to kick a ball whos still trying to learn the basics is a bit much.

I didn't say to "teach" them anything. I was trying to say that you could use the timeout to show them where on the rail to aim the cueball, what speed to use, and what english (if any) to use for that one kick in that ONE game. I didn't mean for the timeout to entail a whole pool lesson. Geez, they get two timeouts per game. Doesn't it make sense to use one in this instance so maybe the SL8/9 won't end up getting the whole 10 points?

Arguing this rule is like many other rules in the game of pool. It's a moot point. Some like it, others do not.

I'm done with this now. You can have the last word.

Man this is the dirtiest trick in the book. Cuz it's like claiming last word!
It's like calling shotgun before you even step outside, man. Total forum foul.

To OP.

I really can't remember scores much anymore..I've played close to
750 matchs..I've been beat 17-3 a few times..an have done the same
to others..in under ten innings..thats not really say much..as I'm just
a five..and a five in eight as well..I've shut out many people over the
years..an have had it happend to me as well..I took the summer off..
an not sure if I'll start in the fall yet..I miss the team play..just not the
drama..
you all have a good wkend.

Dave,
Perhaps you haven't given this much thought. The reason for the no push out in APA is to prevent 9's from running a bunch of racks or whole sets. Plenty of 9's are A players or better. I've run 52 balls before. The point is that the push out essentially doesn't exist for low skill levels, even if it were allowed. This rule more than anything else motivated me to develop my control on my break. You really need to control the cue ball and play position on the 1. the top skill levels *can* learn to do this, but some prefer to think they shouldn't have to and then dismiss the APA as "not real 9 ball". Play whatever league or game makes you happy. But understand that there are actually pretty good reasons for the no push out in APA. Its up to you whether you choose to understand them and benefit from them.

I see what you mean. It almost seems like a cheap shot towards lower players.

wow your getting angry over something silly lol I'm stating a difference in opinion. That's what a forum is for genius. If we all had the same opinion it would be pretty boring. and maybe your new to apa or a low level player yourself but theres a hell of a lot more to kicking then just pointing to a spot on the rail. I'll leave your two or three some 2 rail or more kicks and see how just pointing to a spot on the rail works out for you. It still takes a feel for a shot through repetition they haven't gotten yet.

It took me a little while, but I'd guess that I have a pretty good average for getting lower players good hits with nothing more than a center ball hit at a hard speed. I point to a spot on the rail and tell them "center ball, hard". Just about the most consistent way to kick, imho. The biggest problems I face when doing that is having somebody think that the spot needs an adjustment, unintended english because they don't cue it correctly or them hitting it with their purse.

exactly my point... they don't yet have a consistent repeatable stroke. you can show and tell them the exact thing to do. But knowing and doing for a 2 through 4 are two different things lol:grin-square:

Yeah, you have to know the individual in many cases. If the person can make a basic center ball hit at a decent speed, that's great and takes a lot of wonder out of the situation. I have 5 girls on my team. Some of them can't hit 'hard', it usually comes out as what I'd consider a 3 or 4 out of 10. Fortunately, we play on Diamond boxes mostly, so I can make a few mental adjustments before I pick a spot. This season, I'll probably work with them on hitting the ball hard. It's tough watching them get a good hit, only to leave the CB close by in many cases and rarely a chance for the OB to get to another pocket.

Angry? Really??? You felt that emotion from reading some words on a computer screen?

There's nothing on this forum that will ever make me angry. Hell, this place is a constant source of entertainment for me. I laugh at most of the stupid shit on here. I save my anger to use against drug dealers, child molesters, terrorists, etc. Unless you're one of those, I guess you're pretty safe from any anger.

Oh yeah, the red rep just hurts so-o-o-o-o bad. I don't think I can bear the pain and anguish, genius!!! :rotflmao1:
