Appleton and Decahine in CSI 8 and 10 ball invitationals

--------> political choice

1) Not to say his recent record isn't good -----------> from press release home page (WRITTEN by UNKNOWN) "players selected not only for their proven skills and accomplishments,"
( This puts Mike in ) According to press release

2) His antics at the table, another story--------------> from same release home page (WRITTEN by UNKNOWN) "but also for the respect and dignity they display as professional pool players.")
( This puts Mike out ) According to press release

3) JA tried to twist MD arm to join ABP and BB,--->MD declined, JA threated to Blk Ball MD---> Mark steps in sponsors MD @ Steinway
RM and MD had big argument @ tournament RM walked out (no love lost between these two)
Marks feelings have been stated about BB / ABP/ DP (JA/CW/RM are all a part of both these Org.) A shot across the bow hits everyone on adjacent ship, funny how that works.
( #3 Trumps #2 This puts Mike back in)

(and I think ? that leaves everybody else mentioned out, what a coincidence)
One we know is out, one doesn't qualify, is JA invited, is the big Q ?

Well summarized, logical post.

Could boil it down simply to, "This is my invitational, get it? Invitational. I choose who to invite."

And 100 pages of debating who should or shouldn't be invited and why, on AZ, changes nothing :D

The best part of the Derby was the Big Foot Challenge both from being there in person and from viewing the stream. 16 players made it easy to schedule and keep things moving and all matches first rate. I hope that this expands to 32 players and becomes the norm for a series of major events. I am sure that the other events will benefit as players start to accept what it takes to be invited.

Nice post. The Bigfoot Challenge was a great event and just like the inaugural invitational events being run by CSI at this year's BCAPL event, if things go well, it may open the door for increased field size. For now, though, I'm just happy that these events exist.

With the interaction that is required from the players, this will be a good stepping stone for MD and possibly others to improve their public image. Let's hope they run with the opportunity.

That would be very wise of them. Johnnyt

And we wonder why pool is in the state that it's in;) great post! Hey, I'll tell ya what, MD part of the reason I don't go to our local pool hall anymore! Can't stand the attitude he has! But then again, I'm wrong there because if he has sponsors like snookers and csi, then that must mean he is great player AND has great table manners!

Either way, I really have lost faith in American pool going anywhere because of reasons like this! There are many more players deserving of the opportunity but some think otherwise. We are all entitled to our opinions!

They say that players aren't getting much sponsorship out there? I'm probably in the minority here but I'm not gonna spend my money on products knowing it's helping players I don't like or frequenting halls that sponsor them! Like I said, I'm sure I'm in the minority, and it is my humble opinion:)

Well said. Still, it should be noted that at last year's BCA's, along with Shane, and Jennifer Barretta, Mike Dechaine spent as much time as anybody playing challenge matches against the kids to support the Billiards Education Foundation.

Both inside and outside the competitive arena, Mike D distinguished himself through his behavior at the 2013 BCAPL event at the Rio. Bet he'll do the same at the 2014 event. I'd like to think that this invitation from CSI, at least in part, reflects not only Mike's competitive excellence but these good deeds.
