Aranas v Thorpe...

i've actually watched "Dodong Diamond" (his moniker) a couple of times here in Manila. His Fargo rating seems to imply that he's improved a lot, because those times I watched him play, he would lose to other unknown local Filipino players. he would even get handicap. this was around 2 years ago.

he got this rating from 2 or 3 tourneys, so i wouldnt take it too serious.......
but hes a great player for sure, from what i saw hes the guy now giving the handicaps

Maybe like Francesco Sanchez Ruiz who suddenly appeared out of nowhere and shot up to top 5 Fargo one or two years ago. I think for Aranas we have to see how deep he goes in major tourneys like this one. I would say he will need a few last 16 or last 8 finishes in such world class major tourneys to make the big boys sit up and notice. High finish in world class tourneys beats winning small or regional tourneys is how I see it :)

and not to forget we are talking about a ratingsystem which has the bartablechamp in front of the worlchamp, china open champ, eurotourchamp, european champion and world cup of pool champ! lol

James lost to Warren Kiamco in Vegas 10 Ball...had a top not then...he drew crowds of sweaters.
 
I don't think anyone has had a tougher slate of matchup than Thorpe, and so far he is slaying all comers. Wu / Grabe / Aranas so far, with Biado on deck and if he wins that probably Jayson Shaw next...

Thorpe jumped a ball and he skimmed a ball on the way to making it. Carlo said something but there was no ref present. Don't really think Thorpe cheated him as he was dialed in and the ball barely skimmed. Either way Thorpe got two games from it.

What's crazy are the refs in this tournament. Controversy with the rack in the Ko vs. Shaw match, where the refs didn't seem to know the rules. Now the ref doesn't seem to be present where he needs to be. Kind of a sad situation honestly.
 
rough way to lose for Biado though....Thorpe then fluked the 9 in hill-hill. Ouch.
