Archer and Oscar talk it out live today at 3:00 CST

another one who doesn't understand the internet. oscar can hardly stop his fans from making johnny jokes on facebook

for the record i agree with basementdweller. a man deserves a chance to right his wrongs. JA should work the exhib/teaching scene if he can't get a job and make a payment plan
A chance? The match took place in 2013 or something like that. He has had YEARS to right his wrong.

90% of the bullying is due to 2 or 3 of Oscar's friends who weaponized their social media followers and sent them after Johnny
They are not his friends. Probably fans and leeches.

Weaponizing their social media sounds like some crazed fans. No real friend would try and make their friend look bad.

Oscar probably wants to ditch them but they are probably bat shit crazy and may harm him.

LOL

The whole thing is a sad situation. I never paid it any attention til now, I cranked the interview up to 2X speed and listened to the whole thing.
My take:
Oscar tried to make the point that Johnny could have handled it very differently, and Johnny simply continued to try and justify his behavior by saying he used the money to be able to see his kids. I believe he thought he could tell his side, promise again to try and pay the money back, and get it behind him. He should not have played the victim, because Oscar is way smarter than him and countered it easily.
I'm not sure what Oscar's motivation was. He did raise some good points and countered some accusations which Johnny did not take well, and eventually caused him to storm off.
For whatever reasons, Johnny has been failing really hard and will very likely continue down this road.
Oscar seemed mostly just saddened by the whole thing and resigned to losing the $$
I would like to assume that the podcast was created in the hopes of bringing some kind of conclusion or closure to the incident, but I'm afraid that it did not go that way at all, nothing was resolved other than to bring more attention to it.

I actually thought Archer was the favorite. I lost a few hundred in our AZB action room betting on him. Oh well, you need 2 sides to get down!

Edit: I recall they said on the podcast the original bet was 30k per man.
Oscar said the original wager was 70 early in the podcast. Whether that meant 70 each man or 70 total in the middle with it being 35 each man was unclear.

The bottom line lesson here is that there are no guarantees in gambling. You do it at your own risk of not only winning/losing but also whether you are even going to get paid if you win. All parties know this going in.

Oscar's businesses have made him a millionaire, and it's doubtful he needs the money, but he still deserves to get what he is owed.

His demeanor looked like he regretted participating in the podcast.

Mike Ortiz and Dominick Dunn will keep the drama going so they can continue to exploit it for social media likes.

So I was off, and it was in '21? I was looking at a previous post. Even still, not paying the second you lose is an air barrel and worthy of judgment.

i don't dispute that. but he's clearly in a deep hole in his personal life and i don't see the point in standing above kicking dirt on him. this should be sorted out by johnny and oscar

You know this for a fact or just an assumption? Yes, Oscar has owned and managed (along with his wife) a large Sacramento pool room for a few years.

Very few have any idea of the $ that goes out to run such an operation, not to mention the debt he (and his Dad) may still currently have in acquiring this pool room.

I agree with your point that the $6500 Oscar is still owed from this match would not make a significant difference in Oscar’s life. However, if the tables were turned and it was Oscar who didn’t pay JA for a gambling debt, it would’ve been just as ugly, most likely worse. Of course, Oscar would have never let that happen, or he’d have had to answer to his dad first.

I’m sure most of us have been stiffed at some point. I’ve been stiffed more than once on pool games. I got stiffed for a fair amount one time it didn’t make me mad I just took what I had won from the guy and put it in the bank and he never got a chance to get a single dime of it back ever again.

If JA makes this right and pays Oscar there will still be some people that would still talk about him like he is the worst person on the planet.

If JA doesn’t make it right those same people will still there will still be people who will defend him to the end.

Just look at how some people belittled the USA players for not performing to their expectations on the Mosconi cup team. I’m sure those guys didn’t want to play that bad so why put them down for trying their best.

In this age of the internet we have this bashing on one side. On the other side we have this nut hugger side where someone can do no wrong. Unfortunately this is just the world we live in today.

JA did make some excuses imo and Oscar did handle it very well. This is between them and should be settled between them.

Archer is not despised by many people, imo. There are a handful of people shouting “holier than thou” from the treetops on FB. The rest I don’t think are worried too much about a pool debt.

JA is a deadbeat and will forever be known as such. It doesn’t matter how good a player you are if you’re a piece of shit human being. And this goes for any athlete/actor/celebrity.

Guys like you that give him a pass for being a great player are the problem!

If I told my student loan lenders that I was moving to the "Johnny Archer Repayment Plan", my lenders would not sort it out with me. They would sue me in court...which is public, and they would be justified.

This podcast is live-streaming on YouTube today at 3:00 CST. Has definite potential for high-drama.

Live stream URL:

Backstory: apparently JA air-barreled Oscar $6,500 some time ago, $500 of which is owed to Dominick Dunn, so he's been vocal about it as well. (Apologies if I didn't get that exactly right, just going off what DD and others have been saying online.) I'm sure some of you know more details or can correct me.

Question, They keep mentioning NBC. What are they talking about? Thanks

Matchroom should give him a job as a commentator/interview person. Oscar can garnish his wages. I'd rather see Johnny interviewing players than some random brit.

I doubt it especially since this is high stakes illegal gambling and IRS would be involved.

Face it you guys...high stakes gambling is a lose-lose. You have to take the gamble they will pay.

Who you going to? The authorities? LOL
