Archer & Varner Southern Tour first day, getting ready

Well nothing happened today, I'm off to the clinic. Meeting the guys in the lobby at 5.30 so in 5 mins my time EERR.

Not much happened last night at Fast Eddies, JA and Nick did their clinic and thet went off without a hitch while waiting I decided to try a little food that I had never had before. Seems like everyone I asked about the menu had said that their favorite was Deep fried Mac n Cheese with a side aof marinara sauce. So I gave it a try although it does not really sound that great. It was actually not bad, but definatly bad for you. I would advise anyone to try it al least once.

Just about every pool room we go to there is one or two guys that just want to gamble with JA or Nick. I know that it is to be expected that this will happen but they want to rob us. They wait until after the show or clinic and then they usually start on me first before they talk to the guys and ask "What are the chances that JA will play me a set? What they want to do alot of the time is play JA a race to 7 for $50 So they are basically gonna get some serious experience and maybe learn something for $100. They don't sign up for the clinic just want to get a one on one for half price. Put all that to one side they want the breaks and the last 4 or sometimes even more weight. Look we all know JA can play good but we are not out here to give money away. The guy last night wanted that weight and I told him we have no idea how you play and thats alot of weight. Oh he wanted to play for $100 a set.I told him we have no idea how good you are and we don't come to give money away. He said "come on its only $100" Well maybe its just me but $100 is $100 and I am not a rich man. Anyway I gave him my usual answer "Hey when he gets done you can ask him but I'm telling you right now he probaly isn't gonna go for it besides anything else we have been on the road all day and traveling tomorrow I am sure he needs to get some rest. JA nicely declined the match just as I thought but this guy was not gonna just take that he wanted to play. Finaly he had said what a big fan he was of JA an d just wanted to play a rack with him. So JA said "ok, lets just play one rack right here." So the guy got a little of what he was looking for. JA won and shook his hand, as he is shaking his hand they guy asked again "Come on race to 7 for $100?" JA declined again and we headed out.
Its 10.23 here right now and we are all meeting at 11am to get on the road again. Tonight we have a show at a place called "This is it" in Jackson, Ms so a 3-4hr car ride. Amazing this tour is almost over we just have Jackson and Nawlins and thats it. We will have been out here for a little over 3 weeks I think and visited 8 different states. I know that we all enjoy doing these tours but it is exhausting and as much as we enjoy it Im sure we will all be happey to get home to our loved ones and relax for a couple of days. I will be back when we get in the hotel in Jackson.

You guys are a class act !!

We are here in Jackson at last, I thought that I would have nothing to report to be honest and maybe what I have is trivial so lets start with the complaints. We stopped on the way to get lunch at Cracker barrel. What an ordeal it was, as always we are hoping to get in get quick service and get out and back on the road. I don't care for Cracker Barrel myself but the guys do and so I went in and if I see something that looks good I will get it if nbot its ok as I wasn't very hungry anyway. Our server was a nice lady and she took out drink order we all went with sweet tea. seriousl 10 mins later she ca me back and asked if we wanted to order food. JA and Nick ordered just plain old run of the mill food and I came up dry so it was just them. I did think it was a little strange that we had not got our drinks yet so a couple minutes more as she passed I asked about the drinks she said she was getting them right now. 5 mins later they came. I can see that if it takes this long for sweet tea that the food might be a while. I was right, about 30 mins later the food arrives. Now they were busy but not that busy there was open tables. Nick had ordered a hamburger steak well done, and before the food had arrived I mentioned the time and he said "Well I asked for my steak well done and thats probably the hold up" I told him that it don't take that long to cook a hamburger steak well done" Anyway Nick cuts into his steak and its red raw, blood coming out and everything and just mushy inside Obviously because its just a hunk of burger meat. Nick HATES that and made him a little queezy and said "There is no way I can even get close to eating this and if might take a while to get me something new. We told him not to worry about the time if he was hungry he was hungry and should get his food. So he complained to the waitress and showed her and she agreed he asked if he could just get the ham instead? She told him that would be no problem and came to the table and said that she likes her meat cooked well done too and that she totally understood him problem and that a manager would be coming over to see us. Nicks ham arrived and and soon after the Manager followed along to our table. This guy looked like he had got dressed in the dark in the dirty laundry area. said "I understand you had a problem, we messed up your steak? well all I can do is say I'm sorry I can't do much else about it maybe I can buy your ham and hope its ok" we all kinda looked at him not sure what to think and he came across like "Hey whatever, we got your food wrong what do ytou expect me to do?" well we hadn't asked for him he came over like we had asked to complain. Anyway that was about it until the bill came Nick and JA looked at it and asked the waitress about it as it looked like there were all kinds of little things here and there a la carte. We ll what the Manager did was het did not charge for the ham but charged for everything else on the plate individually. So there was a $1.20 charge for the beans and a $1.00 for corn bread and a $1.50 for sweet tea. Really?? if you are gonna comp the meal comp it I have never seenb anyone discect a plate of food like that before. We didn't ask for it comped we don't mind pay for the food but we do expect it to be good. I know from previous posts we must seem like whiners but we are getting some bad rolls with the food and stuff this trip and if we are paying for it we just want it right. Well we left there and I still have not changed my mind of the Cracker Barrel.

So well over an hour again for our lunch, and we get back on the road and saw something you don't see everyday. Its raining prettyt hard and we are on the freeway, speed limit is 70mph on the opposite side of the freeway is a cop car with lights on and a guy in a truck pulled over. So far nothing unusual right? Then all of a sudden JA who is driving says WTF?? WTF is that in the road look running directly into the oncoming traffic is a cow. The cow is obviously scared and running with everything it has and as we pass it the road is empty but a 10th of a mile ahead are a number of cars in the rain doing about 70mph toward the cow. We had passed by the time anything could have happened and could not see but I am sure that it would be VERY luck for the cow to not be hit and to cause a major accident from people trying to stop, swirve out of the way or even hitting the cow. So I have no idea what happened, maybe it will be on the news and I hope to god that everyone including the cow is ok but it looked like an accident just waiting to happen.

Well like I said its still raining cats and dogs here and overcast, the show is tonight at 7.30 and we are about 15 miles away we think. so we will be heading out at 6.45 tonight. Thats in about an hour and 20 mins.

Outside my window I usually get a roof to look at and almost never get a view of the pool or any kind of view. Today is no exception and although its not a roof its another thing I have never seen before. Its a big lot of land where they keep and sell doublewide trailers that have been repo'ed. I had no idea they did that, maybe that should be a reality show. Not sure how many get sold cos they all look like they have been jacked up. Anyway just sharing on that.

I was telling JA and Nick that I was going to write some stuff on here before we head out and they said "Make sure that you mention us and tell them we said hi and thanks for following along with our little journey and that we hope to meet some of you on the next trip" Also they wanted you all to know what a great guy I am and that my handsome good looks are only surpassed by my intellegence... OK, Ok I made that last part up about my looks. The last think I need is Ja to see that and start hijacking this thread :)

Depending what time we get in tonight and if anything happens I will be back to report. Like I said its almost the end and I am not sure what I will be doing with my spare time after tis trip is over when I have nothing to report. Maybe I will keep going and you can get a report on how I did the dishes at home etc :} just kidding.

Thanks for the entertaining trip reports. If it's possible, in the future it would be great if you could include pictures too.

What's the next trip you have planned?

Allen, when I get an iphone I am sure it will be easier to post pics, my phones camera is crap and it takes so long to get pic off of it that its a pain. I plan to do pics though.
As far as my next trip I am not sure 100% right now I think I will be doing something in November and I have an agreement but I am just not sure if its gonna work or not. You know I will post the info on here as soon as I make a decision on that.

Last night we did the show at "This is it Bar and Grill" in Jackson Ms. This place is out in the country a little, and I would not imagine a place like this being able to make it due to it being so far off the beaten path BUT they have been there for 25 years and the place was pretty busy when we got there last night. SO it goes to show you that whole location, Location, Location theory isn't always right. Scooter and Floyd are the owners here and are good old country boys. Hard workers and as honest as the day is long. There is no aires & graces here, you get what you see and take people as they are. Maybe we could all learn something from these guys

Man, this is very nice of you to share this with us. I appreciate it.
How long are you going to be in New Orleans, Louisiana? Are you coming to Buffalo Billiards? Tell JA I said and Nick I said hello! Nick was with Buddy Hall last year at Buffalo Billiards. I used to go to Marietta, Billiards club all the time. I played on JA's table, and table 5. Thank you very much.

We kind of expected to see Reed Pierce there last night but he didn't stop by. I think we are going to his place tonight as Nick says he does a great steak. All went well at the show and we had a good time with everyone. Somebody did ask JA if he would be on their League team though :)
I think we are cursed on the food on this trip, after the show I am always hungry and so I wanted to stop at that Krystals again as they just sounded good. Someone at the bar had said that there was a Krystals right by where we are staying so as we got off the freeway we were looking to find it but there was no sign of it. There was a Taco Bell though so I said thats fine I'll make do with that. I order 6 Chick Soft Tacos and as the gal is handing the bag over JA asked her "Is there a Krystals around here?" she says "Yeah right across the street" WTF? So JA asks Nick if he feels like some and he says that he does. Great, so we head over there and I decide that I can eat some tacos tonight and save the rest and I will get 3 of those little burgers tonight too. We get to the hotel and JA and Nick are short 2 burgers on their order and When i go after my Chick tacos they are the ground beef. I don't like those, so we went to 2 different fast food places and both got the order wrong. Unreal eh?
We have a clinic today from 11am to 3pm so we are heading over there at 10.30. Then I think its gonna be watching the end of the golf for JA. I'll be back later I'm sure.

Hey Lock n Load. I don't think we will be going to Buffalo's this time as we are booked at Big Easy Billiards and we will not really have any time other than what we are supposed to be doing. Please come on by Big Easy though. We get to NOLA on Monday afternoon and have a show Monday Night and a clinic on Tuesday Night. I think Nick and I will be heading to Drago's for the Char Broiled Oysters on Tuesday though :) We have been planning on it for a couple of months. Hope to see you again.

We have been trying to bid on rooms in New Orleans for over 3 days now and each day going up in price and the bids are getting rejected. After calling a few hotels it turns out that all the nicer hotels are booked due to the workers that are in NOLA for the Hurricane. Anyone on here work for a hotel that might be able to help us out? We are there for 2 days Monday the 1st and Tuesday the 2nd. The cheapest I got from anyone that actually had a room was the Hilton at $275 per night. Boy they get you when they can eh? Supply on demand. Please let me know if anyone has any hook ups. Thanks. I am sure I am gonna come up dry but worth a shot.

Hello bfdlad, JA, and Nick,
Good to get your response. I am glad you guys will be in the city. The Big Easy will be rating with you all in town. I will try to get over to see you guys. You guys are a class act all the way. I bet you are making a lot of pool players happy all over the country! Keep up the good work! Thanks again for your detailed reports on the clinics.
Many Regards,

Last night JA and Nick went out to Reed Pierce's place for dinner I decided I was just gonna stay in and chill. It sounded like a good idea at the time but about an hour after they had left and I had serched FB and read AZB threads I was starting to get bored and started wishing I had gone with them. There was nothing on tv that interested me and so I ordered a Pizza from Pizza Hut. The curse goes on with my bad service and food. I have never has such bad luck with food in my life. I will make it quick and just tell the facts. I ordered a personal pizza with diced toms and shrooms and some wings on the side. They then asked if I wanted some dipping sauce on the side for an extra 50 cents. I thought that came with wings but I remembered that they charged me before for it. So I got a side of Blue cheese. The pizza delivery guy arrived and said "we are out of toms and shrooms and Blue Cheese." I know that they were set to close in about 45 mins and so I am guessing they could have ran out. So I asked "So what did you bring me?" "A cheese pizza and wings" so I asked for 5 things total and I got 2 of them. I just went with it. I payed and that was that.
I also killed some time looking for hotel for New Orleans and that was a challenge. My previous post explains all that I think.
So Nick and JA were not out late last night as Nick had an article he had to do for a magazine he writes for and so we are going to head out at 11am for NAwlins and then we have the show tonight as Big Easy Billiards starting at 7.30pm. I think its like a 3hr drive so we will be there in plenty of time and maybe see about going for some chicken and waffles at Willie May's but we shall see if Nick can make it to NOLA without eating. I hope the weather gets a little better as we go down south because its been overcast and raining since we got here to Jackson.
All is good here though and getting ready for the last show of the tour. The road has got to all of us a little and as I have said before we really enjoy doing the shows and clinics but the hectic schedule can get exhausting and I know we all will be happy to see our loved ones again. We will make sure that tonight is a great show and will probably let loose on eachother a little more than usual since its getting close to our last chances to dig at each other :)

How about that Ryder Cup??? EUROPE! :)

Now if you are that close to Buffalo Billiards, the worlds pool hall and don't come by how are you going to feel when someone ask you if you saw Lock N Load in New Orleans? Or went to Buffalo Billiards to play a little bit of pool? Just thinking that you might stop in while you are that close to us.
Oh, if you order food down here your order will be right! I am glad you got the Hotel you wanted. You always do a good job. And at least it won't be hot down here this time while you are in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Welcome to our fair city. I am not going to say great city because someone will have something to say about that.
Many Regards,
Lock N load.

The real question is how are you gonna feel when someone asks if you saw Archer Varner and of course the real star of the show T-Wheels Mark Cantrill while they were in town and so close to you? :)
Who knows may happen tomorrow during the day as our clinic is from 6pm to 10pm. Is Buffalo usually around during the day? I have his number I can give him a call if we decide to go over there and I will call you and JoeyA. We have to fit the Char Broiled Oysters in tomorrow too. Come to the show tonight Lock n Load and I will sign your cue stick for you :)

Johnny use to see me everyday for a few years when I was up there in ATL. I played there all the time when I was not at Mr. Cues II. You want to sign my cue, huh? I might let you play with it since I can set it to automatic play. I'll even put it on expert so you can play Johnny even. I will try to come to the show tonight. There is a free 9 ball tournament at Buffalo Billiards tomorrow night. No charge to enter and you can purchase tickets to break the 10 ball rack of balls.
We may even start a calcutta so we can sell you to the high bidder. You might like that.

You do realize that LocknLoad is known coast to coast?

You may want to get his autograph as well. :thumbup2:
