Dont want to open up a can of worms here, but do you think larry got HUSTLED!!, o.k. here we go, i had the pleasure of watching them play in shannon daltons tour couple months ago. race to 9. larry wins 9-2, ja sat with arms crossed and watched , now he goes in the lions den where the guy playes all the time and playes him for 10 beans???granted a race is a lot different than head set, but eather ja got a plan or big nuts one!!!

Larry Nevel is one tallented player. Johnny Archerer is a proven champ. Period. JA is not skilled enough to "hustle" LN. Nobody can "hustle" LN. JA played a great match and beat LN...Period. From what I can digest, JA Showed up and played...period. GJ Johnny. No disrespect to LN...he needed a little more time to get started. Congrats to Johnny!

Larry has a ton of heart to step up and play JA, Larry has been winning alot of tournments on Shannons tour and stepped up simple as that. He asked for the game, JA agreed to play. It was a big move on Larrys part and he has my respect. Johnny is just Johnny-nobody beats but himself(sometimes). It was a great match, I hope there is a re-match.

There was once a time when Grady Matthews had an open invitation similar to that of Nevel's.

In my opinion, this type of challenge is great for pool and adds a little drama to an otherwise sometimes boring sport. Players with interesting personalities like Earl, Keith, Efren, Larry, and Grady are just what this sport needs to inject some excitement into pool.

Credit is also due to Archer for accepting Larry's challenge and entering into Nevel's home court and leaving with the cash. Cheers to the aging Archer.

Buddy Hall won the US Open at 50 and these upsets by the older players give all us 40-and-older crowd hope that we've still got a few games left in the tank. :)

Hey Stick,

The main difference IMO is that the tournament was 9-ball and the gambling match was 10-ball. Also, as you know, tournament play is way different than gambling.

Beating Archer in a tournament is tough enough, but matching a proven champion stroke for stroke in a 10 ahead set is brutal both mentally and ability wise.

I agree that Nevel didn't get hustled. Archer has been a road warrior and major tournament champion for a long time, and has gambled for high stakes for many years. Way more than Nevel. Johnny's just that tough to beat IMO.

Well, all that I can say is that I played really bad and Johnny played good. Considering the fact that up until 15 minutes from the start of the set I was trying to seat people, calling everyone I know to find chairs for people to sit and not getting enough time to hit balls I couldnt get comfortable. Plus the first 9 games I had a chance to pocket balls two times. Out of the first 9 games either Johnny made a ball and was straight in or he broke dry and I had no shot makes it pretty hard to get comfortable. Being down the first 8 games puts a little pressure on you worring that you are going to lose 10 ahead in 10 game in your own pool table. Plus we moved the table I play on a couple of days before this and I told everyone that "this table does not play the same". It felt like a brand new table to me. But nothing else to say is that there will be a rematch sometime in the future. I am not afarid to play anyone..... but next time I will not deal with the crap of trying to make sure everyone else is comfortable......I will be ready to play. Thanks to everyone that showed up to watch the massacure.. lol

Larry, you definitely learned something in this match. And it's not just about playing pool. It's about everything involved in preparing for a match. Funny how when our preparations are not the best, the pool Gods seem to know it and punish us.

I have to give you props for stepping up and taking on the best player in the country for the last 15-18 years. Johnny has been a consistent winner since the early 90's. You showed a lot of speed coming back from the hill to almost get even. That takes HEART!

I have a feeling next time you play a big challenge match like this, you will fare a little better. I know I want to bet on you when that happens. Whether you realize it or not, you are a better player today after going through that meat grinder. I feel sorry for the next guy you play. And the one after him and so on and so forth.

That's just ridiculous. Nobody can hustle a guy who plays for a living and can string racks the way he does. I was gonna go on, but that is just ridiculous.

Wait, maybe Larry didn't know Johnny. Was Johnny wearing a hat? Come on.

my hats off to you larry for trying. that took guts and if anyone could win against archer its you.see you on tourney trail

I think a lot of people underestimate Johnny's money game. I know he gave Hennessee the 7 and last three playing nine ball and won rather convincingly shortly after Hennessee held his own playing SVB with the 9 and the last two playing ten ball. I don't think there are many other players out there willing to give a player like Jon Hennessee that much weight for the money.

sorry

Stick8 I think you have valid point,In my opinion when you have two top players like Nevel/Archer the match is a coin flip as to has the better day.Or in this case night.Maybe they can set something up on a bar box at your place next time.

Johnny can't dump a match to try and hustle. He just won't do it, besides that I mean who on earth is going to see JA and think oh this is easy $$. Anyway to answer your question, IMHO there was no hustle.

o.k.
