I went to the archer/strickland pool school on firday, and had a chance to talk to johnny a few minutes. I mentioned how i wish there were more 14.1 players in my area, and he said he loved playing straight pool. Does anyone know much about what kind of straight pool player he is? We didn't get to talk long enough for me to ask much about 14.1:( . Hope i can learn something here about his game.

In the early 90's when Johnny was at the top of his 9 ball game, he wanted to go to Cleveland where they held the 14.1 big dance every year. So Nick Varner who is a good friend of Johnny's showed him some basics about a week before the tourney, some breakball strategies, pattern strategies etc....Johnny met up with Nick in the late rounds of that tourney and ran 150 and out on Nick.

thats his practice game, his best is 205, but he does shoot 100's a couple times a week. he plays it on a 4.25" GC5 thats where shoots 100's at-its a tough table. On his Olhausen table he had before the GC 5, he ran 100 everytime he played it had easy 4.5" pockets.

Remember it well. Talk about ingratitude!

He ran 150 and out on Jeff Carter, also.

Accustats has the match. No commentary.

Accustats also has one with Archer and Dick Lane that is pretty good. Might be one with Archer and Mizerak, too.

He was involved in the New Jersey Accustats 14.1 challenge with Schmidt, Hohmann, Souquet, and Parica. Videos just came out.

Heckuva shooter.

Johnny is an awesome straight pool player. Here are a few of his high run attempts from last year's DCC Straight Pool Challenge
...
The 2007 (I think) he had three runs of 100 or more in the three days of prelims.

Bob
I had heard that too.

Hopefully Johnny will get some triple digit runs this year at DCC. He works very hard on his straight pool game, and it would not surprise me if he eventually won the DCC Straight Pool Challenge. Combine his skill with his desire to win and that opens the door for amazing things to happen at the table.

It stands to reason he has a strong game, he is a very strict tactician in 9ball. I'll have to look up those accustats matches, pick up some pointers.
