Anyone have any good Archie Karas stories? Besides the famous "run" he made, I know he plays pool so I thought there might be some good stories out there?

I walked up to him one time at Pool Sharks and asked him if he wanted to play some cheap just to kill the time. He said no, of course. I'd love a chance to "turn a toothpick into a forest" with that guy.

I believe Mr. Beard has a good story about Archie.

I've know Archie for about 40 years or more. Back in the early seventies we use to play one pocket. Our customary game 11 to 4 $100 a game. With him going to 4.
I remember one time I was trying to make a decision as to what to do. $100 was a fair amount back in that time. Maybe he thought I was taking too much time in trying to decide. He said "man you're taking too long". I then said let me see you give up 11-4 for $100 a game and see how fast you shoot. He then just got quite. Since then we have become good friends.

Archie liked to play with Tad cues. He went off one time at the Golden Cue when it was in Rosemead, Ca, unscrewed, snapped the cue over his leg and threw it in the trash can. One of the locals took the cue down to Tad who fixed it for $80.

A little while later he had another new Tad and the same thing happened after a loss. He was getting ready to throw it in the trash can, looked over and saw the guy who had fixed the other Tad cue and took the cue outside, layed it up against the curb and jumped on it. Now he brought it back into the pool room in eight pieces and threw it into the trash can and looked over and said "Fix that @#$%^&*"

Archie story

There's a pretty good Archie story in my book, "The Green Felt Jungle"
as I busted Archie playing $300 a game six ball in Baton Rouge. When I found out who he was I challenged him to a million dollar set of one pocket, it made all the gambling papers in Vegas, and of course Archie
declined to play. It would have been interesting. :grin-square: :) :grin-square:

Archie came through my dads pool hall around 1990 or '91. My dad played him some for $100 a rack giving Archie the call 6 out and breaks. After losing about $1500 to my dad that way he got into a few games with some of the other local players. Archie shouldn't have liked the games he made with these guys, but I think that he was betting a little higher than some of these guys were used to back then and they were thinking about how much money they could win off the guy. Well none of them ended up winning anything and Archie ended up leaving about 5K or so winner from the room.

I heard another story about Archie losing 90K to a guy from Vegas playing one pocket and Archie went back to try to match up later, he was told by the guy that he didn't have the money because he had used the winnings to buy a gas station. I don't know how accurate that story is, that was one I just heard about.
