I was told that universal shafts are not being made anymore.
Is this true?
Who were the manufacturers of thes shafts?
Thanks
Ron

as far as i know they are not being sold anymore

maker= Bill Stroud of Joss West cues

It seems to me that someone said not long ago that Lucasi was now making them under their name, maybe they bought the rights or something. I can't really remember all the details, but I think Lucasi is now making them.

Ron the shafts were designed with the help of Bill Stroud (Josswest Custom Cues) and they were manufactured in China. The US distributer was Cue & Case sales company out of Florida, they also distribute the Lucasi, Players, and a number of others brands of import Chinese cues.

The shaft were originally manufactured with a shaft insert that could be replaced to fit any cues thread. The design failed and the shafts broke at the insert, Cue & Case stopped importing shafts with design, however, Bill may still sell some of these shafts with a permanent threaded insert like other shafts.

Stay away from the older shafts with the removable insert they are totally a crap shoot and they are defective.

I use to be dealer for this shafts, and I am still a dealer for Cue & Case.

Thanks Manwon Do you think Bill is making them?
Is there a contact number for him?
I also heard they had trouble with the ferrules cracking.
The reason I'm asking is I have a customer who had one and he wants another.

Ron, I don't think Bill ever made them, only helped with the design and used some his cues. They are all doweled in China to my knowledge, however, a while a go I did see another company using a copy of them, just remeber who was selling them, if I remeber I will contact you.

Take Care

the universal smartshafts with the interchangeable joint are not being made anymore. they were distributed by cue and case in florida.

however the technology lives on in several forms:

there is a universal billiards (i think taiwan or china based) that sells 'universal smartshafts', though the joint is not the interchangeable design. has the laminated shaft and the same tenon/ferrule design. i don't think they're widely distributed in the US, i see asian dealers selling them on ebay sometimes.

lucasi has the hybrid shafts, they are pretty much the smartshafts without the interchangeable joint.

players hx shafts are similar as well, but not laminated and no interchangeable joint also, but has the ferrule/tenon design.

cue and case distribute both the players and lucasi brands
