Are you going to spend 49.95 to watch the Open?

Are you planning to order the U.S. Open live stream from BCN?

  • Heck no, I wouldn't spend $50 to watch it.

Ok mr. high roller with all the money in the world to throw away, you pay the $50 for poor quality video you have to sit at your computer and watch. You can't even tape it or record it in case you have to get and go to the washroom, cook dinner and otherwise have a life.

Don't be calling down pool players because they refuse to pay an exhorbant amount of money.

Don't look down on people that don't have the cash to throw around that you do.

I'm not poor by any means, I'd rather do things like put food on the table and put some cash away so my kids can go to university. Next time you drop a hun on dinner(like you stated in the other thread) remeber that would feed a homeless person for a month with that.

Take a reality check, it's $50.00, not exactly a life changing amount of money and you will enjoy it, I promise you. We all pi$$ away money every day of our lives on all kinds of stuff. Heck, that's what it cost you now too fill up your gas tank. Most of the money we spend we don't even get any kind of real noticeable value from, all we do is write checks. It cost me $7200.00 a year just for my home owners insurance here in Florida. Another $8000.00 for my taxes, add to that $1200.00 a month for health insurance along with a bunch of other monthly expenses that would choke a horse.

If I can't spend fifty bucks on myself for something I enjoy, then what is it all for? I am betting I am a lot older then you and I can tell you life is short and 90% is spent in the pursuit of bull $hit. Every once in a while you have to just do something for yourself. It's not like the $50.00 will become a weekly expense, it is a one time cost, give yourself a treat, you deserve it and if it is not perfect, so what you will still enjoy it.

For a live feed you HAVE to watch then? Who has a life they can set aside for that?

JMO

My sentiments exactly.

Also, a lot of the matches are after 9 pm and I am sawing zzzzzs by then as I have to get up at 5 am everyday. They should let you watch at a time you choose for a limited time. Then you could pause and go to the bathroom.

And for these people at work - what kind of a job do you have where you can watch pool all day?!!

I hook my computer up to my TV and Voila, full screen TV quality. I then will invite friends over, $5 cover. Butta-boom, butta-bing.....

Good point Big Truck about hooking up to a TV. If you can send it to your VHS recorder, you can record it via VHS ;) I think if you can record it, then you will get your moneys worth vice waiting for it to come out at Accu-stats and paying for it again :(

Man for $49 or even $69 its a steal. Think about how much it would cost to buy all these videos

I hope BCN doesn't have any connection issues this year. Otherwise, we'll have other one of these threads Link

Too Much Money!!!...They haven't perfected it enough to charge this kind of money. Still too many kinks they need to work out.

I read somewhere that the matches will be archived for up to 24hrs. This should help out. They have two logins "live broadcast" and "archived games".

There are lots of ways to rationalize why not buying it at $50 is a good idea but the bottom line is if you don't buy it you'll not be watching the US Open and I will.

This is a fascinating idea, but it would take some development (duh). A channel-time-reseller could buy up all kinds of events, then resell them as pay-per-view content (with advertising just to get greedy) on the cable system. I'm sure the regulatory folks would have something to say, but a few "whatever-sport-we-have-and-you'll-pay-for" channels could be very good for pool and other second tier sports ... I might buy that (for less than $50 though, say $20 - $25).

Like uwate, I believe that the Internet today does not provide good service for live video. Maybe in a few years when reasonable multicast and quality-of-service systems are implemented to everyones home, but until then the experience will have a very tough time comparing to TV as I know it, let alone High Def which I'd like to know.

A few years back when Souquet won the US Open, the finals was on Pay per view from what I understand, it was fairly successful as far as orders..

Easy there big guy, a lot of us have ordered and can't wait. Why is Pool Issue dead because of a few with tight budgets or can't see the value? I HIGHLY recommend to go and get a S-Video cable, they are cheap cheap. Hook your computer to your TV. The sound will still come from your computer speakers. It's the only way to go!!!

Macguy's got his panties in a bunch because his mac isn't supported by the video streaming software!:D I'm in the same boat so it looks as though I'll be saving $50.

This Thread Has Become Obsolete

As has the other one on the same suject.
Why?
Cause all you guys are giving pro's and con's about the price of 49 for the whole thing and worried about streaming etc. It is obvious hardly anyone has gone to the site and watched the test or read the information.
They are offering daily signups for 24 hours of viewing. 9.95 early part of week and increasing during week. So there you guys just watch what you can afford daily or save money for the whole week. All this ranting for nothing. Also they are archiving until into Nov. to watch.
So somebody needs to re title a thread differently.
