Are you ready for WPBA`s US Open 9 Ball in Albuquerque,NM?

Kim Shaw must be playing great to beat #2 Karen Corr and #3 Monica Webb back to back. She'll have quite a story to tll if she goes on to beat #1 Allison Fisher to capture the title, which would bring her ranking up to #7. Even with a loss, Kim leaves New Mexico ranked #8. Wow, what a great performance!

The three biggest winners in the 2006 WPBA rankings game would appear to be Kim Shaw (ranked 17th at beginning of year, now in top 8), Sarah Ellerby (ranked 15th at beginnning of year, now ranked 10th) and Pan Xiaoting (unranked at beginning of the year, now ranked 15th). Well played, ladies.

The finals are underway.

Allison pushes out on the break and Kim passes the shot. Allison goes for a safety and leaves Kim a shot. Kim makes the 1. Runs to the 9 and jars it.

Allison 1-0

Allison misses a 2-ball and Kim plays safe. That leads to a foul from Allison and Kim takes ball in hand and runs out a very routine rack. Good that Kim shook off that 9-ball in game 1 and is playing well.

1-1

A long safety battle on the one ends with Allison blinking first and giving up ball in hand. Kim navigates a tricky rack to go up 3-1. Kim has brought her A game to this match.

Kim 3-1

Allison wins a safety battle on the 1 but it only able to run to the 5 with ball in hand. The players exchange safeties on the 5 and Kim gets ball in hand to run out.

Allison is playing safes that leave Kim long or just the edge of the ball. Kim is playing safeties forcing Allison to kick.

Kim 4-1

Allison takes control of the game early and runs down to a 7-9 combo. She overruns the combo and has to try the 7-9 carom instead. She misses the carom but leaves Kim hooked. Kim jumps to hit the 7 but scratches. Allison runs the final balls.

Kim 4-2

Allison goes for a 2 way shot that has a chance to pocket the 9. Leaves it in the jaws but Kim is tough on it. Kim goes for a thin cut on the 2 into the 9 but sells out the combo,

4-4

Allison gets greedy and goes for a 2 ball trying to carom into the 9-ball. She makes the 2 but leaves herself jacked up over the 5-ball with a tough cut on the 3. She jacks up and drains the 3 ball then proceeds to run out the rack.

Allison 5-4

Both players are showing some nerves now. Multiple balls missed. Kim misses the 9, but Allison misses it back. Kim doesn't miss the 2nd shot.

5-5

Allison jaws a 2-ball but Kim comes up short on the 3 ball. Kim jaws the 3 but leaves Allison hooked. Allison misses the hit on the 3 giving Kim ball in hand. Kim runs to the seven but comes up short. Misses the 7-ball and Allison runs the last 3 balls.

Allison 6-5

Both players fight a safety battle until Kim lets the cue ball go a little bit too far on a safety attempt and scratches. Allison runs out.

Allison 7-5

Allison is US Open champion and kim is runner up.This is the first time Kim reached that position.I am happy for kim.Later I was invited to join kim & Allison,Gerda and others to celebrate the occasion in a steak house.

If it was mentioned in this thread, I missed it. I just read on the homepage of azbilliards that Allison was recently diagnosed with skin cancer and had surgery to remove a growth. I wish her the best and hope that it is something that does not spread. Reading that she almost didn't even play makes this win a little more remarkable.

Yes that was mentioned. I assume it was only squamous cell cancer (benign) like the small growths that golfers and farmers get on their ears.

I had one of those removed from my chest last year. No more sunbathing for this light-skinned Anglo.

Allison has said that she likes to garden so perhaps that is where the exposure came from.
