Please take the time to vote for 1 of the 3 cuemakers as to who you would purchase from first.

I am looking into purchasing a cue from Josey, and DZ in a couple of months. I am looking into one more cuemaker. I really fell in love with Ariel Carmeli Cues and these ones in particular.

My question is this, who has played with AC cues and what are your opinions about them compared to Josey and DZ. I know Jazznpool will probably be the first to respond!! Also, how would I go about getting a predator 314-2 shaft fitted with matching ringwork? Will I have to send the cue in to get a predator shaft matched? Thanks to all in advance, I am learning so much being a member on here and look forward to contributing anything I can also....Thanks Guys.

I have never had a DZ cue but I have had both Josey and Carmeli Cues.
I play with a Carmeli now and really like the cue. For whats its worth I get more reaction from the cue ball with less effort with the AC.

I couldnt get used to the Josey. In all fairness he might have been able to tailor the cue to me more or another one might have been better. However I didnt like the weight distribution and the hit was rathe dull.

I have played with a few Joseys and noticed that each hit differently.
With Ariels cues I have noticed a more balanced weight position and
they all seem to play similar to each other. Of course they will all have their own characteristics.

I might be a bit biased though due to me playing with an AC cue now.

I personally have 3 Ariel cues. Love the way they hit, and how consistent they are overall. I have played with a few Josey's and I second Frankncali's description of there play. Josey cues even though they are beautiful were not for me in the playability sector. As for DZ never seen one in person or played with one.

As for the P2 shaft getting matched to an Ariel cue that should not be a problem. Jazznpool can get them and have Ariel match them. I have a P1 on one of my Ariel's and believe it or not the original shafts play better in my opinion.

P.S. You can do a search under my handle to find the pictures of my Ariels in the cue gallery.

I play with a Josey now and would probably be more specific as far as taper and such if I order another one. I was also surprised that the shaft came at 12.95 instead of 12.85, which is what I ordered. However, since I started playing with the Josey I have somehow gotten my stroke extremely refined. I am MUCH more accurate and can get great action on the CB now, more than when I was using the 314-2 (this has everything to do with me, and not the equipment I believe). I have an AC on order, but haven't played with one yet. So far I've hit the jackpot as far as reading previous customers and choosing the right cuemakers. I can't wait.

PS. I'm getting the thinwall steel jointed super curly maple/rosewood one :)

I love my AC conversion, and it was a cheapie, relative to his other work....I also really like all the great AC cues Martin has for sale on this board.....I bought mine through him and would highly recommend any future business with Martin....

Good luck on your choice...

I've owned and played with 4 or 5 AC cues and all were great. I'll definitely get more in the future.

I got an ariel sneaky in a trade a few months ago and absolutely fell in love with the hit of the cue. At first didn't care for it much because it is a little on the heavy side. Now the cue is great and i'm now trying to aquire another

Ariel Carmeli cues are well made and play good. Ariel has a stockpile of superb woods and he is coming up with new designs. Lately he has been doing silver inlay work. I have a few cues that come with a Pred shaft on my site. Having a cue made with one or two Pred shafts with matching ringwork is no problem. Can also add Pred shaft with matching ringwork to any AC cue on my site. 11 new AC cues are going to be coming in over the next 2 months.

I have been playing with a 6 point bocote Hoppe AC cue for about 1-1/2 years. I love the way the cue feels and responds. It plays firm, but not overly so. I had a SW that I liked before the AC.

Here's a new wrapless ebony/ concalo alves cue that is loaded with ivory and silver inlays. I'm going to offer it at special price here on AZB. It is a one-off design. Weighs 19.4.

Thanks, Martin

AC uses some of the best shaft wood you can get. He buys the blanks by sound they make when the tap the floor. Dont mess it up with a P shaft

Nothing plays like a good heavy piece of maple.

Here is my new Ariel Carmeli

These quick picks wont do it justice. Normally I am not fond of green in cues but for some reason I liked this one.

how do they compare to schon

How does the hit of the carmeli cue compare to a schon, would anyone be able to explain this two me.I'm looking for a new cue and like his designs.I corrently have a schon cx-50 with a predator 314-2 shaft.

areils cues are good, i live by him and have hit with many. however, as i have long stated, collectors have ruined the market for people that are actually buying cues for that they should really be used for (ie playing pool if you're not following). ariel was, for me, overpriced, but i was willing to deal with that..... so, then i started talking to him about what would happen if i didnt like the hit of the cue he made me, and what if i wanted him to fit a predator shaft on a butt made by him. he didnt really want to work with me, and i'm not knocking him, the market is screwed up, why would he want to pay attention to a real pool player??? there is a guy that cant make a ball waiting to buy 10 cues with 15,000 dollars worth of inlays, why sell a sneaky pete to somebody.

in any case, i dont hold any grudges, i understand people's need to make a buck. with that said, i went to DZ to get my cue, he listened and acquiesced to EVERY one of my requests. and my cue is perfect for me and has been for almost 2 years now. i couldnt speak higher of a cuemaker than him, he's great.

I have not played with one of his cues, but Bob Dzuricky is a great guy and works hard for the customer delivering a great value. He has great communication involving the customer with the process of building the cue, and like you said, listens very well.

The similarity with Schon is that both use shaft tapers that are on the stiff side. Ariel uses a flat-face joint which, IMO, transfers better feedback to the hand. If you buy a Carmeli from me, I'll let you send the shafts back to me to have the taper extended with no labor charge if you find the AC cue plays too stiff for you. BTW, I believe DZ and Josey also build an excellent cue.
