Ariel Carmeli vs. Bryan Mordt

Balance Point is the decision to be made

Both cue makers build great cues. The question to ask is about balance point!! BCM cues have a slightly backwards balance point. 17 to 18 inches is what i think BCM told me. I have no idea where the balance point is for AC.

You should call them both and find where the cues balance at and then go from there.

Excellent point. I believe AC's cues are forward balanced. 19" or so from the butt.

With very rare exception all full-custom Ariel Carmeli cues in my stock have a balance between 18-1/2 and 19-1/4" from base of buttplate. This is the optimal balance area IMO. This is also consistent the opinion of many cuemakers I hold in high regard. For the record, Ariel threads/epoxies on all components. The forearms are cored for long-term stability and consistency of play. Although I can't speak for previous years, the selection of shaftwood and cue woods at AC's shop have been excellent to superb over the last year.

I have never played with a BCM cue but I sure like his clean execution and attention to detail. I think he is one of the up and coming makers because of these attributes. His cues seem to be a really good value if you like the way they play. For myself, I don't like any cues that balance below 18". Having said that, IMO, BCM trails Ariel in the learning curve department. Carmeli has been at it longer and has some depth in his background that exposed him to construction methods of top cuemakers (Best Billiards). Ariel's basic cue construction methods are rock-solid, sound, and very much first rate.

One of the AZ bretheren tried to run-off a buyer for an AC cue a few months back. The guy ended up buying the cue anyway and is still as happy as a clam last I heard from him. Its great that we're living in a time when there are many well-made cues available.
