The PGATour plays four clearly defined major events. They don't call every tournament a 'major'. I guess pool is still such a broke-dick 'sport' that any event that pays over $5000(and you can't wear a t-shirt) to win is a major. IMO a 'major' should stand WAY above a regular tournament event in both prestige and $$$$$.

In any case, WNT doesn't have to mimic the PGA, and of course the pro pool is still in its infancy, as you so ... eloquently put it! For the foreseeable future I'll put most weight on the US Open and WPC.

Matchroom should create printable brackets for its biggest tournaments, much like the NCAA basketball tournament. Give fans a chance to make their picks.

Heck, maybe they should let fans submit their picks with the winner getting a small prize. Couldn't hurt.

This isn't the NCAA b'ball tournament, why would MR make printable brackets?? Maybe they could allow on-line betting, oh yeah, that's been done, didn't work too good.

EVERY pro sport has events that are a big step up from the regular events aka MAJORS. Every time i see a pool tournament listed its a major. Whatever.

I find any of these events worth watching as long as the pool of top tier pros is big enough. So I would say the WNT majors/World championship as well as the Predator PBS (not Eurotour) events qualify for me.

Entry fee $350
Total prize fund, $125,000, including $80,000 added money
Location: Quechan Casino Resort (Winterhaven, CA, 12 miles from the Yuma airport)

The required hotel for players is the casino. Rooms are $125/night total which is lower than their usual rate, especially on weekends. The casino seems to offer rooms only through its official site, and not through Orbitz or Booking.com and such. Use the link from the Matchroom event web page.

The only airline into Yuma seems to be American (by Skywest), from either Phoenix or Dallas. From PHX, the roundtrip fares with luggage are $570 to $900 for the one-hour flight. For the adventuresome, Amtrak has a Yuma station and provides service to/from Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Maricopa (near Phoenix) and Tucson. From Maricopa or Palm Springs, the round trip is about $70 and takes about three hours. The train, which is not daily, runs at night.

dunno. i think it's to differentiate from the smaller satellite events, but it makes little sense to me. this event is just 25k or 30k first prize? there should be a money limit for the term major, over 60k first prize or something like that

That's the answer. The WNT consists of events that are produced by Matchroom and those that are not (satellite events). The ones produced by Matchroom generally pay out a lot more.

If you mean WNT.TV ... depends on how much pool you watch. I'd say it's worth $60 a year to me, but I don't mind contributing to pro pool.

Alternatively, you could subscribe to WNT only for the months you want to get the big events. Might cost you $40 to $60 a year going that route.
