I am looking into moving to the Sierra Vista AZ area. Does anyone have any info about the pool playing in this area. Are there any pool halls other than going to Tuscon(75 miles away)? Thanks in advance.
 
As far as I know there are just a few bars with bar boxes. I know a couple of people who live there that come to Tucson to play regularly, and I'll ask next time I see them.
 
there is no poolrooms there you would have to go to tucson.but the pool in phx is getting beter and beter every day.

Thanks for the response. It is disturbing to hear this. I would really like to here back from you if you get more info. It sounds like I will have to make room for my own table.
 
Well there used be a website call AZ Billiards that was dedicated to providing info about Arizona Billiards. Their focus has expanded quite a bit but they may still have some good AZ info buried there. www.azbilliards.com

I was there about a year ago or so and there was one place to play. It wasn't much poorly run and poorly maintained but a hall none the less. There was some action and tournaments when they had enough players. a couple of the guys shot weak b speed at best. Theres also a Army base there and had a little military action in the hall as well. I have no idea if its still even in business it was on its last leg when I was there. I can't remember the name of it seems like it was on highway 92 if memory serves me.......Hope this helps....Dave Its called Rackem pool emporium

I haven't been to Sierra Vista in about 7 years or so but I do remember a pool room there which didn't impress me. But also down the same main street, about a mile or so, there was a Billiard Supply shop run by a really nice old gentleman. He sold a pretty good variety of pool cues and had two new Oldhausen tables which he was selling (he was an Oldhausen agent). He also had a snooker table there which he would rent time. I enjoyed some time on the snooker table and it improved my game. I don't know if that shop is still there, but you may try yellowpages.com to check. Good luck in Sierra Vista.

We were down there this past summer for just a second, but it still looked just as quiet as I remembered it.

Stationed @ Fort Huachuca?

Sierra Vista is one of the places I would consider settleing if I won the lottery or something big. Quiet and very beautiful.

Aside from the fence jumpers running through the yard, very appealing.

No I not in the service. I could be working for Northrop Grumman at the base. Just a possibility. Might be going down there in the summer to look around. We like the Tuscon area but NG doesn't have much to offer in Tucson. This is an area the wife would like to retire in. Palm trees and scorpians, oh my!! I guess I will have to build a big ditch inside the fence.:D :D

If you live closer in town scorpions may not be too bad. If you live in the desert (Sierra Vista) or outskirts of Tucson or Phoenix, I would suggest: 1. have an exterminator once a month 2. and per the old timers, check inside your shoes before you put them on and shake out your clothes before you dress. When I was a kid in Phoenix, my Mom fixed me eggs for breakfast one morning - it was real early, still dark, and she was in a hurry so I also had a scorpion swimming in the eggs. I refused to eat the eggs and after she checked out the plate I got a new plate of eggs minus the critter.:) Enjoy Arizona.
 
I suggest getting stung regularly by adult scorpions to develop a natural immunity to their venom lol. Rescue a staffordshire bull terrier and they'll keep the critters out with a vengeance :P If that fails... CHICKENS.

I find chickens raised in the desert have NO FEAR as when I was growing up I found skeletons of all kinds of dangerous critters in and around the coop we had. We had 7 hens and 2 roosters free-roaming during the day... I found everything from scorpion carcasses to (king)SNAKE skulls. They're pretty damn vicious... oh and cannibalistic. A few birds wound up stuck in the coop a few times. Only way they made it out was in the spirit world hah.

I finally ran into the guy from Sierra Vista, and asked him about the pool there. He said the pool hall is still there, but keeps odd hours, and there is rarely anyone to play there. He does practice there when he doesn't feel like driving to Tucson, but says that more often than not the drive is well worth having an opponent.

The players

I have known didn't particularly care for Arizona because of their imposed state handicap system that is used there, most notably, Donnie Brown, originally from Wichita, now of Oklahoma City.
