Arizona Ratings Convertions to ABC System Discrepencies - Opinions Wanted

This thread seems to be morphing...

I should just change the topic of the thread to - Arizona Player Challenges and Other Misc. Discussions  .

If you live in Arizona and want to talk about something... eh, what the hell, just post about it here ;) .

Ray

P.S. As for my original question - I guess it's all subjective and Roger Long has got it pretty close. The Arizona rating sytem is horrible/awesome/<insert adjective here>... ABC sytems - who cares! No one knows what the hell a baconator is. A "9" rated player is a fish in Hard Times Bellflower. JimmyM is losing his memory. Dennis and Bernie would love to play Bobby (I don't blame them, he is not as good as he thinks he is). And BVal hurt CooCooCowboy's feelings again... but he may challenge BVal when his Social Security checks start coming in... maybe. Did I miss anything?

Edit: Oh yeah... BVal doesn't like letters, only numbers.
Hey Ray,

Thank you for not forgetting about me. :)

For what it's worth, I wish all the tourney's were open-even races as well. I think we should do away with the whole system and just play.

Also, sorry for derailing your thread. :)

LOL.......Yes......you misspelled conversions in the title

Just don't go changing a system where we have tons of opportunities to play to one where no one wants to play. That's my vote.

I understand what you are saying but it wouldn't stop me from playing. Other people probably so.

No problem, Cheezy Poofs! You're still my horse.

I couldn't agree with you more. ALL tournaments should be open and even races. Just step up and play.

No need to apologize. It was not you... it was CooCooF******Cowgirl!

P.S. Yes, I am having a bad day. Being a working man sometimes really SUCKS!!!!

NOTE: I use the words No Mans Land for a 9 rated player becuase it is much nicer than the alternative as it was described to me by Jimmy

He said...(years ago)......"A 9 rated player in Phoenix is a above average player....That same 9 rated player in San Diego is just an average player...That same 9 rated player in Hard Times Bellflower is "A Sucker" :)

That same 9 rated player would be pro speed in Albuquerque or El Paso. OOhhhhHHHHhh!

I would like to see Dennis and Bobby play.

I would like to see Bernie and Jimmy play.

I want the winner of the BRKNRUN vs. BigCat match. I would like to play a "Master of the Table" style set where its; Banks, 1-Hole, 14:1, 10-ball and 8-ball, with money on each set so they all have to be played.

I am also putting out a challenge for SCOTCH, with the same format as above. (I should probably check with my partner first;) ) If the teams are unevenly matched weight could be applied.

Sorry to hijack the thread but it seems a lot of AZ people are on here.

To answer your question Ray, i think it should be kept simple.

Pro 10-2 and above
Short Stop 10-1
A -10s
B - 9s and 8s
C - 7s and below

I think the problem today is too many people are over rated.

breaknrun,

Ok, through some investigative reporting, I just found out who you are. I actually thought you were someone from Tucson/Sierra Vista who was woofing at me that has pissed me off in the past. Now I know that you are "on my list" ;) , we're all good.

Dude, we can totally play. Whatever you want to do. You just have to get in line 'cause everybody and their mama wants to play me right now. I'm not sure why... I'm usually a pretty quiet guy (kind of like you). But for some reason, in the past week or so, I've had a target on my back, and people have been coming out of the woodwork asking to play me.

I want to get the Roger Long match out of the way first. I am REALLY looking forward to that match for many reasons. But after that, I'm sure Fast Lenny will be more than happy to hook us up on a live stream to play some all around type sets.

Sorry if I seem cranky today. I'm having a crappy day at work. As I told BVal... I feel like drop-kicking some soft little bunnies

Later,
Ray

I might just take you up on that. It isn't that I hate the game so much as I hate getting beat to death every time I play it! :D

Jimmy, I just hate to see a guy with your talent, not wanting broaden his horizon's, and learn the greatest game on a pool table. JMHO. Maybe you feel, with all your other obligations, you don't have time to devote to learning a new game. I think you would be a "sponge" as far as learnig the game. You have all the tools needed.

The ultimate venue is always one where each competitor feels that he/she has a real chance of winning. It boosts numbers of players, prize funds, number of events...and on and on. Take that away and POOF, it's all gone like a house of cards. Be careful of what you wish...could kill the whole pool scene here if it catches on.

Theory is great and there are a lot of us who "love the game", but I am the first to admit, when I play a tourney...I only play with my eyes on the prize...take away the prize, and we can just play for braggin' rights at my house...for FREE.

Cry 'nit' or whatever if you want....but that's the reality of it. JMNSHO

BTW I want a crack at the reigning AZ8. I'm calling it out here!

I think the system currently in place is not perfect but Arizona is stuck with what they have until the Bar/Room Owners can a agree to revamp the Arizona Rating System, or DUMP IT.

Big changes could be on the horizon could , according to, recent published articles in Valley Billiards News.

Time will tell. Yes there are THREE Links to read.

FYI................:boring2:

Big "CHANGES" you say....Coco, how long have you been a Democrat ?

Let me tell you something, Mr. Bubble-Invader... I would kick those damn bunnies so far, I'd set the new NFL record for hang-time.

LIke I said I completely understand what you are saying. I wouldn't call you a nit or anything like that. Your opinion is not stupid either. The best way to get better is to play the best players. That is why I play in the DCT stops and before that the All-Arounds.

If the entry fees stayed the same as they are now with all the tourneys they run now I would play in them all and my game would rise much faster. I would pay a $5 or $10 entry knowing I don't really have a chance to win but at the same time knowing I am going to better my game. I have done it for $50 numerous times. Why wouldn't I for $5 or $10.

I think we both know that all tourney's being open is not going to happen.

Props to BVal for wanting to step up and play the better players. It is one of the best ways to improve one's game.

I understand the alternate argument as well. But I guess the way I see it is if you have to always ride a bike with training wheels, what's the point of having a bike at all... there are other forms of transportation  .

<Wait... did that make sense at all>

Sorry I missed this entire thread on my travels to Payson for the AZBCA. I'm now tucked in my hotel room getting ready to play my first match in a few hours here.

I did post the Ratings Definitions off of www.azpoolscene.com if you want to see about where you land. Now, these definitions were created many years ago and don't cover all the intangables in judging someone's speed, so take it with a grain of salt.

If you want to help mold the rating committee please show up at the next meeting on August 17th at Kitty's in Phoenix. Info on the homepage of azpoolscene.com as well.

 I am not Political Party Affiliated but with Bob Jackson stepping down as Committee Chairperson (bad choice of words) lets say new leadership always make changes.

Time will tell what the changes are, and after the Meeting at Kitty?s on the 17th. of August a new chairperson will take over.

Should be interesting to see who is at the helm of the committee.

I am the current and dont have a challenger who is 8 speed,so we can have at it.What's you favorite game?I do enjoy one pocket even though I am not great at it.You can pick your game and I will pick one hole,10 ball or 9 ball would be a neutral game,if your pick is 10 ball or 9 ball we could have 8 ball as a neutral game. ;)
JUST SAY WHEN AND WHERE! :D

Good luck in your matches Ray,I think it will be fun and as long as my schedule is open I will be there and bring it to the masses. What day did you and Roger want to play?

Thanks, I will need all the luck I can get. Roger and I have agreed to:

Saturday (August 16th) at 3PM
BullShooters (table #15)

Will this work for you? It's over in the challenge thread in the Action Room section. Not sure what part of the valley you live in but I will pay for your dinner for making the trek out there. Sound good?

I apologize if I implied you would be able to cover all these match ups. I certainly would not make that assumption without first asking (as I have in the past before posting). I was just stating to breaknrun that we could probably get this live streamed if the logistics work out.

Let me know if the above date and time works for you.
