Arthritis

I was a pretty good player at one time but old arthritis is getting me down.

I still start out strong but then the back starts hurting after about 2 hours
and then i'm not getting down on my shot.

I was reading that JA-Appleton thread where Appleton said he didn't like those long races.

Heck, i couldn't do that if I wanted to.

I tell players I may have to quit after a couple of hours and
now alot of them don't want to play. I can't says I blame them.

Any other old timers going through what I'm going through?

Jello

I had trouble with my hands in my middle 30's.
They were over-developed from playing golf.
I was told to try jello..works on certain kinds of arthritis.
It worked for me...ate a soup bowl of jello for a month.
Any time now my hands start to hurt I just eat some more.

The man who told me was a fitness freak and an undefeated boxer..
trained troops in WW2.

No hand problem yet, thank God!
My problem is endurance.
When my back starts hurting, I get real tired and can't get down on the shot.
i think my gambling days are over.

I think that if your back can last 2 hours at the table, you're still doing pretty fair.

I have a prescription for pain.
I take it about a half hour before I play.
But if i take more than one, it messes up my game.

You are right, though. Two hours ain't bad.

aw, but the old days! :o

Take 3-4 200 mg Ibuprofen (Motrin/Advil) about an hour before playing as a prophylaxis. This is the equivalent of a prescription does of 600-800 mg tablet. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory and aids in freedom of movement as well as help to prevent sprains/strains. It also doesn't make you 'loopy' like a pain med may do.

I have some arthritis settling into a couple of the knuckles of my bridge hand...I do the above and have no issues with playing longer. That's not to say that I might not feel a bit stiff the next day...but it gets me through my night.

I thought I had arthritis for years. Sad but the cause of my joint pain and aches all over my body was diabetes.

Once I found out I was diabetic and started eating right I lost some weight and the knee braces I wore for 15 years I threw away. My right knee is junk from 2 surgeries but I was wearing the braces on both.

I'm not saying that this is the case with you but there are alot of people out there that have aches and pains and just blame it on arthritis or something else. When your blood sugar is high it can sure screw everything up. Causes alot of pain if you don't know it and aren't eating right.

If you have aches and pains. get checked for diabetes. If your fine at least you know.

Have a great day Geno............

Good suggestions, Lisa. I've been taking Lorcet 10's , but
more than one does make me loopy.

Geno, I'm borderline dibetic, but, unfortunately, the xrays say
I'v got arthritis in my lower back and leg.

over the counter osteo biflex did me some good, won't cure your ills, but i had some noticible improvement in stiffness. a friend's wife had a lot of pain, and a root called cat's claw ( unia de gato in spanish) really helped her a lot. she's been taking it for years.

A woman I know tried it for her back...it worked.
It doesn't work for every kind..
but if you don't mind jello,it's a free shot
