The Rocket

I was hanging around Moyer's about that time and Roger Griffis was my first guess.

Was fun watchin' em win in Reno, then back it up at the Hollywood tournament the following week. Great sense of humor/laughter and he was in dead punch. I can see em gigglin' too this day.

Well dang, sorry for the repeat thread then. And thanks for posting it originally Dead Money! Well, since it is already up, maybe more people will be able to add information or stories on the people and places that were mentioned.
Never apologize for posting about the good times. I can't see anything worth posting in this century.

Bump for a good read!

Pretty sure our man CJ Wiley was written up in Texas Monthly too!:)

Maybe Vivian was also!?!? I know she was featured in the Austin Paper a few times along with Show Boat Joe in a separate article.

I found an article about Vivian but it wouldn't load.

WOW!!! Nice work my man!!

I guess your search skills are greater than mine:clapping: Now I am ...:eek:uttahere: to go read 'em!

Google let's you search a "site", in this case texasmonthly.com, using the syntax "site:texasmonthly.com <your search terms>". I find it is usually better than using another site's own search feature.

For those that never got to see Roger Griffis (the main character from the article in post #1) but are curious to know who he was, Accu-stats just posted a match between Roger Griffis and Efren Reyes. A couple of months ago when this thread was still going I don't think any of his matches were online anywhere at that time.

Rocket Roger, was similar to Rodney Dangerfield on the green felts. His demeanor lit up the entire room.

On a side note, Billy Incardona's co-commentator for this match is Tony Annigoni, the main character/gambler from the very famous pool book "Playing Off the Rail". Tony subsequently became infamous for failing to pay out all the prizes in the last big pool event he put on (details can be found in threads on here for those not familiar). Tony can be seen here:
