AT joint protectors

These are examples of joint protectors made by one of the best. My good friend, Alton Takata. He's has been making joint protectors for over ten years. He has made joint protectors for many respected cuemakers. Wes Hunter, McWorthy, and Chudy to name a few. Some of the respected cue makers that know him are Bill Schick, Tim Scruggs, and Barry Szamboti. At one time he made caps for the lights of respected cuemakers like the above. I'm not sure which so I don't want to give false information. Caps range from 25-100 depending on what you want. From simple cuecaps to four points, spliced work and extensive ring work. You name it, he could probably do it. Most materials like alternative ivory, various veneer colors, all different pins, gems, stones, real ivory, all woods. Joint protectors come with both male (screws into the shaft) and female (screws into the joint of butt) sides. With the male side being more of a simple design then the female side. He uses a hand oil rubbing finish like some cue makers use for sneaky petes. If you are looking for joint caps from simple or elusive let me know what you are looking for and you can get some work done. Email me at wangr@hawaii.edu or PM me with pictures and an idea of what you want and I'll give you a price range and what can be done. The main things I need are ring work pictures, cue butt design, diameter of joint, how fat the pin is, what kind of pin, and how tall the pin is, how many females and male protectors. Joint protectors can range from 25 to 100+ but you get what you pay for. Quality goes synonymous with the name Alton Takata.

Price Range Estimates and Examples for one female and one male-

Some of these examples are from Alton's old site www.geocities.com/cuecaps and others are fresh off the lathe.

All rarer woods are higher priced like koa and pink ivory.

All metal rings like the ones on predator shafts will cost you 7 dollars extra. (it is harder to work with metal because if you don't seal it right it will expand and the jp will look funky)

All Rare materials will cost more also like Ivory. Special proprietary joints like the viking quick release or some jump break pins ie J&J or players may also cost more.

Uniloc joints will cost 5 dollars more. schuler not sure yet.

Picture 1- $25+ dollars - wood and black collar

Picture 2- $30+ dollars - simple ring work stuff - like ivory colored dash rings.

Picture 3- $35+ dollars - fancy ring work stuff like southwest, bushka rings, tad rings These can vary a lot so pricing depends on design.

Picture 4- $45 + dollars - Pointed cues with simple ring works, again depends on design and how many points you want, 4 6 8 etc etc

Picture 5- $50+ dollars - pointed joint protectors with rings, depends on what kind of rings how many points and the design

Picture 6- $50+ dollars- special designs

Picture 7- $70+ dollars- spliced stuff/veneers

Pictures 6 and 7 are the first two pictures in the next post as azbilliards only allow me to do 5 at a time.

I noticed less views on the bottom pics. You people are missing out :P. The best stuff is on the bottom. Will post prices for jps already made soon.

The first two are 8 pointed caps with ivory into ebony and ebony into ivory. The third is a custom made cap for the predator green sneaky pete. The last two are recently finished cap for a tad. Crazy stuff.

Thanks for looking!

Some really nice work here, most top cue makers will charge $300 on up for matching Jp's. When I'm ready to have some made, he will for sure get my business. I have a few cues I wanted matching JP's made with the cue, but were to expensive from the cue maker. These are very affordable. Thums up!! BTW, where is he or you located?

Yes he has a lot in stock. Not so sure about 3/8x11. I asked him to take some pictures. When I get them I will post pictures and prices.

Outstanding work and appear to be great prices! I will likely give him some business, as will one of my cue collecting buddies.

Show what is available

Why not post some pics of what he has available right now with prices. I think many of them would sell...I know I would be interested.

Will do so when I get the pictures.

Still waiting for pictures. I've seen one of my friends joint protectors from AT made for his southwest. The ringwork is pretty damn perfect. Good stuff. For those looking for southwest matching protectors you may have found your source.
