Atlas Billiards

ivory

I wonder if it was just a case of "risk management" that failed? I cannot believe that any large company was not aware of the law when it involves such materials. It is no secret that many tusks and such are very open to scrutiny.

Good thing I didnt buy those ferrules from the shady guy on the corner. He looked alot like Bill Stout!!!!!!!!

This is just the end result of a "raid" that happened quite some time ago. Atlas billiards is a subsidiary of a larger company, so they won't "fold". Someone probably go fired though...

Atlas Billiard Supplies is a division of Atlas Fibre Company, one of the largest suppliers of specialty plastics in the plastics industry.
Ah the Doodles we might loose them :-(

Just another reason I don't mess with ivory. Too many headaches and hassles.

It's really pretty simple. Don't buy ivory from outside of the country, and don't ship it outside of the country and you should be fine. Technically, I think you are supposed to have documentation proving that any ivory that you have is pre-ban, but practically speaking, as long as you are small-time, and don't deal over country boarders, you will remain free from scrutiny.

They should have enough left over from the shipping charges of my last order to cover the fine...:D

HAHAHA....yep my last order could fit in the palm of your hand and it was $15 for shipping........ Could've been sent for the cost of a couple postage stamps. Eric said I should have ordered more to make it "worth" it.

They will be able to pay the fines easily for what they want for shipping. I needed a dieted tap that was $35 and by the time I added 11.50 for shipping and $5 for handling and 9% sales tax I was at almost $55. I waited and ordered from Prather. I bought kanji tips at 15.00 each on eBay and it made them cheaper than me buying them for 9.75 at atlas very sad. Any other of the great suppliers I use are reasonable on shipping. Maybe if enough people let them know they will research other items I have ordered $850 worth of supplies that I usually order from atlas but I just feel like I'm getting screwed on shipping charges. Everyone I have ever talked to there is very nice I just think they need to address some of the shipping charges.

I never realized how bad they overcharged. Most of my orders have been somewhat large.

I just did a test and 10.00 to mail a single tip??

OBVIOUSLY they could use USPS, but with their UPS account they make GOOD money I guess.

Maybe they should send Vasoline instead of Doodles?

I don't mind the shipping, That's UPS, but the handling is a ball breaker, it's not like their giving stuff away. But somebody has to pay for all those sales reps and of course the guy who does the packing. At the end of the day, it is what it is.

There are several factors involved in shipping charges.

1. Each address has a zone in relation to the shipper. The further the zone, the more it cost.

2. Next is the size of the package. The bigger the package, the more it costs. The heavier the package, the more it costs.

3. Value of the contents. Yes, it may fit into a padded envelope but if the replacement value is $300, it must be insured for that value.

4. Someone has to package the shipment. Labor and packing materials are figured in the final shipping charge. It is difficult to incorporate that cost into the price of each item. Especially when there are several small items.
