Glen, if someone's a professional mechanic already, why would they need this DVD? Maybe you mean, if anyone wanting to learn the correct way to install simonis cloth...this DVD is great info on how to install the cloth properly....also the rails. Personally I like the system you have come up with...this is a must buy for those who need to learn how to install the simonis cloth....learn your stretch index....get the most out of the playability of the cloth.

I'm sure this DVD will change the way people install the cloth.
Best of luck with the DVD to you and Jay.

How much do they run?

I don't know what Simonis is pricing them at for the SBE, all I deal with is wholesale to Simonis.

Donny, I showed the stretch index using the stapling method, until I can work out the glue being able to be shipped, there's not much point in showing the gluing system to install the bed cloths...but the stretch system is the same, using the same stretch indexing to determine how tight the cloth can be installed by the installer...no matter what kind of cloth is being used, but the demonstration in the DVDs is with using Simonis 860HR on a 9ft Brunswick GC4.

As Glen stated in the title, these dvd's are for experienced table mechanics only and not for sale to the general public. If you visit the Simonis booth at the expo and want to buy one, they won't sell you a copy unless you are a mechanic. The cost was $30 a dvd.

And no I don't have a copy, I'm not worthy! :D

If someone can pick one up, I would like to have one. Can send paypal ASAP. Thx.

Just thought I'd ask, didn't think it was exclusively for professionals. Appreciate the reply though.

We got a set of the DVD's to check out, and they are definitely geared towards mechanics who already have experience installing cloth. I think the DIY guy would be lost on a first attempt.

That being said, the videos are definitely good. For any of you out there who still get wrinkles, puckers or stretch shadows when installing Simonis, these are a must-have.

Good work, Jay, Glen, Ivan, etc and thank you for your contribution to bettering the industry.

Just watched the DVD's with Josh (club billiards). Excellent work Jay and Glen. This should help any mechanic install Simonis correctly. :D

Glen

do you stretch the cloth the same amount when stapling as gluing?

stretch

I don't see how one person could stretch the cloth with two hands and staple it at the same time....with the glue system one guy can do it with out extra hands and get it very tight!!!

There are leverage tricks to it. I can pull with two hands, then hold the stretch with one while I grab the stapler with the other.

With a good backing on the slate, you can still stretch VERY tight with staples. However, since each staple only covers so much are, there will always be spots in between staples that aren't as tight. With the glue, you've got complete coverage, so you can get a very tight and very even stretch, which is what is important to eliminating your stretch shadows.

is there any chance to take a look at those long-awaited DVDs for people at the other side of the pond?

Simonis has them on their website now. It's a positive step IMO and something you expect from a leader in the business.
thanks. But I still couldn't get the price since it says "call". When Glen was sharing his instructions on leveling and covering and other things in a form of Word files and pictures, I was hoping a DVD would be ultimate thing to put all this together and get a clue of how things are done. Now when the DVDs are out they seem to be hard to get. Calling it "professional" stuff worries me a bit in regard with professional things are usually more expensive, and most often for no particular reason, but just for the name of it.
What I am driving at is that Simonis could quote price for the set of DVDs about $200 instead of, say, $40. I'm guessing the price here as, like I said, there is no way for me to get it yet.

Val,

They are not saying "call" to raise the prices. They are verifying that they are only going to installers and mechanics in the business as stated earlier.
This is not a DIY video. This video is very specific to Simonis brand cloth only and designed to assist someone already working in the field.

IMO,it is an excellent tool for all mechanics to at least see.

Wondering how this could be done. Glen said nobody could ever stretch cloth as tight as his glue method?

Ron, I think most mechanic's fail to understand that "tight as hell" and "tight enough" is two different things. Not all that install cloth have the same strength that I have, or others for that matter. The most important thing about installing Simonis cloth, or any other cloth for that matter is that it's installed with the correct stretch pattern, and that it's installed as tight as "the mechanic" installing it....based on his/her OWN strengths....which in turn, will make it tight enough to be correctly installed. I didn't demonstrate the gluing system for the simple reason that the glue I use is not available to all that would like to use that system of attachment at this time, but Jay and I are working on that in order to solve the distribution problems with the EPA.
