Attn Matchroom - I offer to be the captain.

So when a player either on USA or Europe upsets or disagrees with Lee, would he ask them to step into a ring as well? Yeah that's what we need.

O/U - yes. absolutely.

and do you have any idea how much $$$$$$ Matchroom would generate off of that 1 incident? (if, it occured) Watchez, you know you have my respect - so i ask you to hear me when i say - understand it for what it is. we/USA are NOT their target audience. Luke reads AZB....he simply doesn't post.

is Lee an ass? yes.
has he stayed at my house? yes.
do i know his past? no.
did he come through for me on the last set of Bonus Balls for KK9's bday present when he could have shafted me when he was broke? yes.
was it because he & i had a certain "level of Brit understanding"? absolutely.

i like Mark Wilson very much & he comes highly recommended.
this thread is not about him; it's about brainstorming, and i'm putting in my 2 cents.

from a marketing standpoint, Europe would have their panties-in-a-wad & pull $$$$$$ more $$$$$ if a fricken Brit were the coach of Team USA....
....much less, if we WON.

Your post makes absolutely no sense

Matchroom hired Mark for a reason. Mark has accomplished that part. we still can't "throw the leg". it's time for new blood. 11 of 50, of us did NOT attend last week.
follow the money. it's not about us/US.

In my opinion, Mosconi Cup captaincy fo Team USA ought to be based on a few considerations:

1) Former American professional player
2) Mosconi Cup experience, former Team USA member
3) Coaching/instruction experience
4) a good relationship with prospective Team USA players
5) a track record of good sportsmanship and respect for the game
6) meritorious service to the game in America

I argued in the past that the two Americans who measure up better than any others are Mark Wilson and Tony Robles, so I was delighted with the Mark Wilson pick.

Tony Robles should be next:

a) 2003 BCA Open Champion
b) Member of the winning Team USA in 2003
c) one of the most respected instructors in the Northeast US
d) very well liked in all pro pool circles
e) two time winner of PBT sportsmanship award
f) founder of the Predator Tour and the North American Pool League

Tony would be perfect and, in my opinion, should be next up if/when Mark Wilson tires of this post.

Mark was a good choice to change the way business 'twas being done in the past , his approach was to bring in a mix of players some on merit some by choice and good sportsmanship was going to be a criteria along with being a team player
No more premadonas were going to be on Mark's team regardless of thier play
His first yr saw limited success , however this yrs group showed marked improvement
I think he has set the table quite nicely for future yrs , players know what's expected of them outside of thier good play and he's brought some pride back to being on the team
With that being said I still can't see us going across the ocean and winning next yr
I see our best chance coming in 2017 back on home soil
That's where I think Marks run should end and the reins handed over to someone else

lee brett is the fricking guy for real???

possibly the most disliked person in the pool community. - Pretty sad if people have to spend their day talking about me. When 99% of you don't even know me, but believe everything you read.

banging other peoples wives - See if you actually know me, you'd know i seen my mother having an affair and have never cheated or been unfaithful in my life.

doesnt pay his dues - Please elaborate? because if i owe something i will pay it, i don't have any debts and was taught by my grandmother to only get what you can pay for, don't borrow.

remember him and appleton spat few years back - I remember it very well, do you? Would you like me to explain what happened? or would you rather just go off the rumors you read..

takes credit for things he hasnt done - Credit for what? telling Appleton to change his grip, all i asked was he wrote something if my advice had helped him. Oh and yes i do have witnesses who was there, his name is Damian Massey, you can look him up and ask him if you like.

oh ye the V grip he invented that apparently, - No i never invented it, i merely gave it a name, been calling it the "V" grip since i was 18 years of age coaching local junior players to play snooker.

just takes some of the snooker fundamentals and tries to incorporate them to pool he is a fraud - I played snooker for 10 hours a day since i was 9 years of age, i have had 10, 147 breaks. I know everything there is to know about fundamentals and ball making.

no players respect him, id bet my house not any of the top 20 guys in US pool respect him as a person let alone a coach
As a person. Let me explain something about life, you can count your real friends on one hand, the rest are associates. You know why they don't like me? because i don't take their BS, there are so many fake, false people playing pool, who all make out like they like each other and the minute their back is turned they are slagging them off. To me that is a false person and someone i'd rather not even associate with, yes i was outspoken. My Mother told me as a child to keep quiet, i told her "No, if they are bullying someone or disrespecting someone who isn't there, they should have the right to defend themselves"

None of the players on the team liked Mike, so why all be false with each other, be open and honest and clear the air and then bonds might be formed to win. Pro pool is a huge click and dog eat dog, the Euros put this aside for the bigger picture.

One last thing, action player your name is what? i don't hide my name, hence my real name on here unlike some people.

I will be doing ALL FREE VIDEOS on youtube very shortly, we can see if i am a FAKE and a FRAUD then, haters can keep hating. I must be doing something that bothers them. Sad thing is i'd rather walk away from pool, that put up with the childish drama. I am 41, i used to react to these idiots. Guess what i grew up, lets hope everyone else can at some point.

Yeah I don't even know who the alternatives would be. Mark Wilson is probably the only true pool coach in the US.

If you had to pick someone else, there are instructors like Scott Lee, Randy G, & Jerry Briesath. There are older players like Varner, some of whom might be good coaches but most would not. There are well-liked pros who themselves probably wouldn't be on the team, maybe someone like Tony Robles. Beyond a few more names like that, none of whom are as ideal as Mark Wilson, who else is there?

I like Larry Schwartz. Writes a column for billiards digest. Has coached billiards at Northwestern University. If you're ever in Chi-town, Larry is the man. A regular OG "go to" guy.

The truth can hurt & some just don't want to hear the truth. I made a reference to ostriches earlier.

The Pro Game here in the US is in need of a Heart & Lung Resuscitation Machine & there is no where for one to be plugged in.

It's past time for reality & the truth. The Pros need a Grass Roots Organization & become their own masters & stop being slaves or whores for the pimps. Some may take that to mean that there is a lot of money exchanging hands but I am not saying that. The thing is that even the pimps need lunch money.

No offense meant by the use of the term pimp. Times are hard for the Pro Game. It's just meant to establish the working relationship of where the talent is & who is making even just lunch money off of the talent. Again no offense meant, as some are doing the best that they can to try to just keep it alive. I understand that & I am not blaming them. If anyone is to blame it is the Pro Players themselves & they don't like hearing that. Sometimes it takes a total sacrifice for any real good to be done to help others & one's self. The Pro Players have never been willing to do that as they just want to play. Understandable...to an extent. BUT... it's always been pay now or pay later. Too many do not want to pay the sacrifice now so that perhaps others will be helped in the future if not themselves too. At least that is how it has been up to now. Someone needs to have the vision of Pro Pool being like Pro Golf & then 'sell it' to enough Pro Players to make it work. The model is their & it's the PGA of America & how it was formed & took it's first steps.

Just food for thought.

Best Wishes to ALL.

PS I don't see any big changes on the horizon, but I sure would like to see a Guardian Angel come along for the Pro Players. The Game deserves one & so do the Best that Play the Game.

"A team lives and dies by their coach. The buck stops with Mark Wilson and Mark Wilson alone. Deflecting criticism and blame onto the players is BS. Coach them! Establish infrastructure and ethics as paramount principles of the team. You can't lead them if you can't tell them they "Truly" earned it.

The captain goes down with the ship!!! Trying to blame players and save the captain is like throwing passengers over board! Captains record speaks for itself "11 to 5".

I was expecting 11 to 8 or as low as 11 to 7! But, 11 to 5 is worse then 2 to 1! Worse then a 33.3 win percentage! This was an old fashion taken behind the woodshed. Just think, if they would have paid players based on win percentage? Those poor performers would have very small pay checks. But, the coach said "NO" and they get 10k for that poor performance. Failure to coach and "Properly" motivate your players. IMO"

NAVY Seals reward performance and "Punish" failure! Based on performance some should be rewarded and some should be punished!!!

Makes no sense to repeat sending guys that crumble under pressure at the cup! 2 players have played poor enough for the coach to step in based on multiple years of poor play!!! Poor Justin Hall, took the team on his back last year and got nothing for it! The coach could/should be doing more regarding establishing rewards and punishments for performances.

Award bonus points as rewards in next years race or deduct points for a poor showing! you could award top 3 performers slots in next years event and leave the last 2 open for new comers! Some system of incentives and punishments are a must to "properly" coach and manage a team. A coach is there to provide "Structure" and motivate!

Rick,

Are you using an essay generator to make your posts for you? No, seriously. Are you?

Because of all your nonsensical posts, this has to take the cake. Do you live with anyone? If so, please have them start proofreading your shit before you post.

Your solution regarding me is REAL SIMPLE.
Place me on ignore & do not read ANY of my posts.

It's NOT my fault, if my posts are above your level of comprehension.

Best Wishes 2 ALL.

Shane and Corey have both taken lessons from Lee Brett if that isn't enough. Although I do still like Mark for the job, Lee has a lot to offer.

Does one's Membership Status affect the Private Messages Function of Membership?

Like Gold vs Silver.

Can Golds not receive PMs from Silvers or something like that?

Thanks & Best Wishes to ALL.

I am a 99% committed Mark Wilson supporter But I like Lee and admire his enthusiasm as he tries to scratch ouit a living in a foreign country. But I cannot believe he seiously considers himself as a superior alternative to Mark.
His past is littered with examples of poor judgement and his notion that he could do a better job than MW is an example of another one.
He can still continue to contribute to the game but at a much lower level.

Thank You for bringing a little reality to this idiotic thread.

Sorry Lee, but we need to move forward, not backward.

In light of recent events and Mark Wilson's resignation from captain, I am reviving this thread from last year...as we see, Lee Brett was right a year later....

From the initial post, the team of Jay Helfert and Lee Brett should be considered for the coaching job.
Jay's recent offer top take the team under his sponsorship for one year was very serious.
Lee has been coach of the Hong Kong national team and has already been in this position on an international stage.

This is an opportunity to shake things up from the old style of US captain is former Mosconi cup member.

The Euros were first to break the mold by following professional coach Johan Ruijsink to glory.
Its time for a change-up and these two guys are the ticket.

Jay and Lee for co-captains.

You may think-

just speaking for myself, and as an American, I think it would be most unsatisfying to have to call in a coach who hails from any nation other than The USA, to coach our team to a victory.

Nothing against Lee Brett but isn't this competition supposed to be USA v Europe?

best,
brian kc

Hi Kickin' Chicken,

While you may think it's unsatisfying, it is necessary.
Why shouldn't we learn the moves they use?

Just as when the United States needed training to fight the Revolutionary War,
we had to call in a German military officer to train our soldiers because we just didn't know.
