Authenticating old Tad cues

Hello,

I am in the market for a plain jane maple Tad cue. I am looking around and have seen some without logos. I have read that he didn't use a logo until after 1977.

As these cues can be fairly expensive - how can you authenticate one 100% before deciding to hand over your hard earnt dollars?

Thanks

rep or cert.

The only two choices I know about are: the rep of the seller and a cert from Tad. A lot will depend on the homework you have done and common sence. Good luck, and when you but, remember to post pics.

if you do a search tiny has a plain tad with silver rings from the 70s 1200$

great cue refinished great price. stand up guy

Well living in Southern CA it isnt hard to find real Tads or to get them authenticated. Tad's shop is one block away from the place I play tournaments at on Monday nights. Also my friend is really close with Tad and whenever I need to get work done I go through him. Another thing is I have 4 Tads and 3 of them have no logo. I had bought these cues from respectable people. If you were to buy it make sure the person your buying from is willing to take it back if ur unsatisfied.

One time someone came up to me trying to sell me a shaft saying it was a Tad shaft from one of their friend's cues that got stolen, he said it was from the late 60's early 70's, and this shaft had the pilot cut off and the ring work had the boxes which Tad is known for, well Tad didn't start using those boxes until 1975, all the ones prior have a silver ring. So I just politely told the man selling the shaft that I was not interested.

If you take off the rubber bumper you should see a number stamped into the wood. Call Tad's shop and ask whoever answers (Fred or Tad) about the cue. See if their description and manufacture date matches the cue.

Tad once said he doesn't make a Certificate of Authenticity. His receipt is his documention. I once saw a Tad #8 with a Aluminum 3/8" x10 Pin come to Hawaii. We sent it back to the seller. FYI
Merry Christmas everyone...

Balance on Tad cues

I have been looking at a Tad cue with the following specs:

Butt 29 1/4? 15.4oz

Shaft 29 15/16? 4.7oz.

Does anyone know how well balanced these cues are and wether I would be aware that the cue is over 20 ounces?

Sometimes you know if a cue is 20 ounces by the balance (maybe butt heavy etc) other times the weight is so well distributed you would'nt notice it.

Cheers

Your kidding right?

I have to smile on this post. I am a huge Tad fan so my response may not be a good one.

The 2 Tad cues I have owned are excellent cues. Looking for a Tad with an exact measurement and weight however, makes me smile. From my experience, the shaft wood is among the best out there and IMO it is one of the reasons they play so good. The other reason for is the slightly smaller diameter butt. The one I just traded had 4.0 oz shafts and were excellent, but expecting to find a cue with those exact measurements will be nearly impossible.

If you are seriously looking for a nice playing Tad there are 2 entry level ones posted here at pretty good prices, (maybe a little wiggle room, but close). Neither one is mine by the way so I am not trying to make a sale.

I wonder if you can find one from Southern California used cheaper, but is it really worth the hassle?

If you are going to be at Derby City, you are welcome to play some with mine.

Yes, that is a good deal...

No worries Ken,

My problem is , is that I live in Australia and it is difficult if not impossible to find or hit with one here.

I am looking at this one http://cgi.ebay.com/Rare-4-point-pu...ryZ21212QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

And think it is a better deal than the 2 listed here.

What are your thoughts..

Cheers

I agree that is a great deal if you can get it for the $2K. IMO, I have not heard of that heavy of shafts, in fact getting 4.0 oz is a challenge sometimes.

I cant see how you can get hurt on that cue. My point of the other post is if you wanted to get an entry level Tad for $1500 or so, I would recommend the ones noted here. I just traded mine off for the one on my avatar and I am tickled with it.

Shipping from HI would be a snap for the boys down under......

Good luck, and you can still come up to Louisville for the DCC.

i know you didnt ask me, but I have owned Tads since 1990 and have around 10-12 of them now, I played with a plaine one for years, the 4pt putple heart cue in that link looks good to me, I like how the no-point cues play, I have played with all my tads and the no-point ones play a bit better, but that could be me, you cant get hurt on the purple heart cue, i'd be comfortable with that deal
