Authorized Tim Scruggs repair

I know this has been discussed before, I am looking for an authorized Tim Scruggs cue repair. When I originally received this Q the butt was cracked in 2 pieces. I had it replaced. Now I would like it to be fixed properly and get the cue refurbished. I saw a pic of a Scruggs redone by Bryan Mordt. The work was astounding, and i would gladly let him work on mine. Also I am hoping someone (hopefully Mr.Scruggs) remembers this cue and can give me some background on the piece. It is a beautiful piece of wood and hits like nothing else ive ever played with.

Players:
Scruggs
Ingram
Meucci
Break:
Vintage Mali w/tiger x shaft
($25 dollar pawn shop find)

Authorized? What Does that mean? If you don't go to an 'authorized' location, Tim won't back the cue? It is way outside of any maker support obligation.

I'd replace 'authorized' with qualified...

Bob Frey, rat cues, proficient, mordt, Philippi...I'd thing they'd all serve you well.

As for the cue's history, I wouldn't thing you are gonna get too much on that, specifically relating to that one. They put out a lot of Merry Widows and the light maple was a popular color.

Authorized meaning Tim Scruggs approved work. Not everyone can use his logo and that is an important factor for the finished cue. As far as history, i haven't seen this particular cue in the Scruggs catalog, so i believe it may be custom. This is the only scruggs i have used, so are all Scruggs a bit thinner at the butt? This one is thin, leaving me with a better control of the cue.

Call Bob Frey, Tims old partner. He refinished a Scruggs Sneaky for me that he probably originally built when he was partners with Tim. Excellent work and super nice guy.

In your situation I would get in touch with Corey Barnhart.

I know he has done that work on TS cues before.

Bob Frey is also good and would be my 2nd choice.

Ryan (RAT) and Proficient are extremely capable repairers and refinishers, as well.

Other good choices have been mentioned. Please note that Leon Sly bought Tim's tapering machine with all the shaft and butt tapers programmed on it. Martin

Once a cue-maker retires, like Tim has done as well as so many other great cue-makers, all you can do is find a competent cue-maker to do the repair.......there is no such thing as an "authorized" repair as you've referred to it. As suggested, Bob Frey is a great person to contact and I heard that Cory Barnhart was another cue-maker that's completed and repaired Tim Scruggs cues. I am currently using Jerry Rauenzahn to build a cue and he's really top notch, as well as Bob Owen who built me a great cue this past spring. If you have any doubts, get in touch with Nick Serdula whom seems to be the best expert on Scruggs cues that I've encountered on the Forum.

If a cue repair involves replacing a butt cap and engraving a new logo, you should have it done by someone approved by the original cuemaker if he's still alive. I'm thinking specifically about Tim Scruggs or Bill Stroud, but I'm sure this has come up with other cuemakers.

That is exactly what im in need of. As i said before, only certain people have the rights to reproduce the logo, and without some kind of verification i wouldnt bother spending money on a overhaul. I may have screwed the pooch by having the butt cap replaced the first time, but I know its a Scruggs cue, and its not going on the market until I need to fund my retirement.

Leon Sly (as Martin said) or Corey Barnhart.

you will get what you need.
