Has anyone used auto clearcoat over lacquer? I believe some sanding sealers are similar to lacquer and clearcoat works ok over them but Im not sure with straight lacquer. I dont think you can put lacquer over clearcoat because of the bonding issue so thats why Im wondering if they are compatable. Thanks for any help.

I was told by a knowledgeable person that auto urethane's do not work very well with lacquer type sealers.

I would have to agree. Lacquer will lift too easily from the wood...giving your auto clear a much greater chance of flaking off. Too many quality sealers to even consider risking it.:)

What I have is a couple of old cues that have a lacquer finish and it looks like it has worn off in a couple of spots so I touched it up with a lacquer sealer but the finish in general looks a bit hungry so I thought Id shoot it with clearcoat. If no one has done this before with success, I think I might just try it on an old piece of wood before I damage these old cues. Appreciate any advise and Happy Holiday's.

Auto Clear Coat typically has thinner to allow you to spray, which is laquer based. mix the two together, and you will have a pretty spider web -Crackled look :)
