Autographs

Does anyone collect autographs, pool or otherwise?

My Father is a die-hard Cubs fan and I have purchased several for him on baseballs, bats, and jerseys. My sister is an AD at a local high school and I have gotten several for her over the years.

But I just bought my first for Billiards the other day, bought a Fats autograph, and I know I will be looking for others.

Orlando

I've been collecting autographs for years and I'm going to Orlando to the KOH event. I would like to invite any of the 150 to reply to my request for autographs. I have never tried to get autographs that were billiard related, but I think I'm gonna bring some cue balls and maybe a case that I could get all of the Hall of Famers to sign. I don't intend to sell any of them. I guess as far as storage, one of those nifty little plastic baseball holders will work for the cue balls, but I don't know about a case or the butt of a stick. Nevertheless, my gal and I are really looking forward to meeting as many of the "names" as possible. I know that most pro athletes kinda frown on a guy coming up and asking for a bunch of autographs (kinda looks profit driven), so I'll just ask for one. Again, my intent is on collecting, not selling. Anyone know of any of the players who would refuse an autograph request?

I collect autographs. You can purchase a magazine called Autograph Times. It gives you a lot of info of different celebrities, mailing lists and much more...

We have a huge collecting including Dillinger, Bonnie and Clyde, The Beatles and many more.

That's pretty interesting. How do you display yours? Do you frame them?

I'm looking at a Cubs 1935 World Series signed baseball (21 players) on e-bay as a present for my Father.

You really have to be careful when buying autographs. Now that COA's are almost mandatory, people are even faking those.

Is it his own signature or his stamp?

I collect game used cueballs signed by the winner of the tournament, I now have a few from some major events. Of course I am not looking to sell them and when my witness dies nobody will believe the stories as to how I got most of them.

Actually it's a postcard he send to a friend. It's got the post office stamp with the town and date on one side and a few words and his signature on the other.

All the words and the signature are hand written

Sweeeeeeet!!! In his later years he used a stamp and those are worth considerably less.

I have most of the good ones framed on non asid paper and enclosed with glass on both sides, especialy if the signature is signed verso.

The ones I mentioned are up on our walls in our pool room in addition to many others.

Bob that's not the only autographs I collect, they are some of the most sought after autographs from a collectors view. Sorry it's disturbing to you. At least I don't have any of John Gacy's Clown artwork that he did during his last years in prison.
Here is a partial list of my collection.

The Movie Poster of Apollo 13 signed by the entire cast
A signed football by Walter Payton, Dick Butkus, Gayle Sayers and Mike Ditka
Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward signed together B/W
Madonna
Marilyn Monroe
Vincent Price
James Gardner
Clint Eastwood
Kevin Costner
Jayne Mansfield
Jimmy Stewart
Rosland Russell
Judy Garland
Faye Ray
John Wayne
Elvis
Dean Martin
Ringo Starr
Anthony Hopkins
Chris Zorich (Chgo Bears)
Danny Bonaduche

In addition to this, I have the psychiatric complete file of Richard Speck and John Gacy. My father was a criminal Physiatrist and was the consulting Physiatrist, expert witness for many high profile cases during the 1960's till his death in 94.

Can you imagine what the topics at our dinner table were as I was growing up?

I don't really collect autographs but do have a few I've gotten over the years. In 88 I was at the BCA show and picked up a set of 5x7 prints of the then living hall of famers and got these
Caras
Butera
Balukas
Balsis
Wise
Mosconi
Crane
and Fats
Lassiter was sick and not there and Miz was too much grief.
I also took an ivory billiard ball to one of the senior tour events and got
Incardonna
Lebron
Mathews
Hall
DiLiberto
Munson
and Boston Shorty Johnson
The most unique is one on a poster of Fats, he came to Chattanooga and I got one with the stamped autograph and a hand written Rudolph Wanderone.

Jimmy Caras

I met Jimmy's Daughter online by accident one day and told her of an old video I had of Jimmy and Moscconi doing trickshots as the Q-Men. She remembered seeing that before also. She sent me one of his books signed. I was never really into signatures, but I do cherrish that book!

My son's college room mate's dad is a professional autograph signer (a profitable hobby). All three were at a baseball card show. His dad picked up a ball that he had signed. He asked the seller if it was original. The dealer guaranteed it was. The dad went and bought a ball and signed it. Took it back to the dealer showed it to him. The dealer looked at it and said it was authentic. The dad told him he did it. The dealer did not believe it was "fake". The dad asked for a blank ball and signed it in front of him.

If you collect autographs it is more fun to be there when the person signs it and you will know that it is real. When you buy one anyone could have signed it and what did it do for you. I think the real value is just for the proof that you met that person.

These are some old pictures of my case. I set out to get the autographs of all men's US Open winners. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get St. Louie Louie's before he passed. I have retired this case and placed it into storage. All signatures were done with a silver paint pen (you can get one from Michael's), then coated with clear nail polish to seal the signature. Once I get my "ME" room set up with all my trophies and stuff, I play to make a display case for it. While it's probably not really worth anything to anybody else, it is to me....

Like I said I am not really into autographs, but the case idea was fantastic. I think it is quite clever and very cool. I would imagine it would be a target for thieves if you did still cary it around with you. I think you underestimate how valuable that really is. Nice Job!!!

I didn't start collecting any type of autographs until about 6 months ago. I have a few cues balls, and a nine ball with the pool players:

Cory Duel
Johnny Archer
Robb Saez
John Schmidt
Tommy Kennedy
Buddy Hall
Earl Strickland
...and way more but I can't remember all of them!!

I also have some Atlanta Braves collector items. I have a Chipper Jones drawing with his autograph, put on a plaque, with some other Braves info. Then, I have a team picture of the year they won the series on a big plaque, with some Braves information as well. I would like to sell them, but haven't come to terms with getting rid of them!!

I got a few autographs, two of Jeanette Lee, one from Sarah Rousey and one from Jennifer Barretta - thanks again SJM.

The thing I saw that I truly drooled over and almost bought on the spot was an autographed poster from the movie "The Shawshank Redemption" signed by Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman in a mall in Atlanta. Guy wanted like 500 or more for it. My wife wouldn't let me buy it though  One day perhaps!
