For those who don't know, Tony's a BCA instructor out of Maryland who offers lessons from his home for a very reasonable rate. If you've been considering lessons, and you're anywhere on the east coast, CALL HIM.
I worked with him on my break and added about 3mph right away with a few simple fixes he spotted. I was struggling to even crack 20 mph, I had done it maybe 3 times in my whole life prior to working with him. But just in the span of our single lesson, I broke 20+ three times.
It's worth the price of admission just to get a chance to shoot in his pool room. It's decked out with everything a player could ask for... a wall full of custom cues, high chairs, q-claw, every flavor of chalk (including kamui and preflag masters)... and the highlight is a tournament-blue Gold Crown painstakingly put together by RKC. It plays fantastic. Just try not to get sharked by the wall full of trophies and plaques.
Tony is great to work with. He sets up a camera, puts you through your paces, then carefully analyzes the video and explains what he sees and what you can do to improve. Then you get a chance to put it into practice and compare the new footage with the old.
In my case he saw that I was not using my body at all in my swing, that my address was too far from the ball, and my back hand also needed repositioning.
What I like about him is that he's very honest and thorough in his explanations... for example, he mentioned that other well-known trainers may have differing opinions on the correct form or hand placement for a break, and he's not afraid to recommend that you look around and figure out what works best for you.
Overall, it's just a great experience... he's got a great place out in a woodsy area, wonderful wife, and two siamese who will convert even the most diehard dog lover. And at the end of the day, you have actual results and specific drills to take home with you.
I'm looking forward to practice. I'll be back again for sure.
