Just when you think your'e good

I thought I was getting pretty good, way back in the old days, and I had ran a few 100's, and thought I could handle anybody...except maybe the champs. I was playing a guy in Houston .. race to 125, for $50.
I ran 88 right out of the box ... he got up .. said nice run .. and proceeded to run 125!!! I immediately found out I was NOT a good straight pool player. "Just when you THINK you can play!!!"

i might be the worst 14.1 player in the world, i have broke and ran 4 racks playing 9 ball starting from the 4 ball before the 4 pack, I have ran a 53 point inning on a 6X12 snooker table, i play good 8 ball, and ok one hole and my best at 14.1 might be 8 or 9 balls, that game brings out the worst in me, i cant make a ball playing it, GRRRRR

Hello Fatboy, welcome to AZ,

Dont get frustrated with it. I grew up playing 9- ball, and 8-ball, and started playing 1 pocket at the age of 20.

I never played 14.1 much either until last March. It is frustrating to start out with, especially if your are more of a rotation pool player. Why? Because your mind is not used to finding the patterns in 14.1. In 9-ball you know what ball you have to shoot next. In 14.1 you have to decipher the correct pattern to get out.

Keep at it, it will improve all of your pool games.

Mid-40's, quite a while ago when I played a lot.

i retired from pool in 94, i have a gold crown in my house i dont play much, i havent been in a pool room in 7-8 years or longer, is 14.1 making a come back? seems reading here it is, its awalys been my worst game, by a HUGE margine, you never know watching me play any other game just how bad I am at 14.1, i was never a top player in Phonix AZ they had this rating system years ago and I was an 8, i think the range was 4-10 and the pros were something like 10+++,

I made a post about CEO's and pool a few minutes ago, please dont take it the wrong way, its just an onservation, I've been around a long time and seen both sides of the coin so to speak, i dont want to upset anyone here but I'm not going to hold back my opinions.

all the best

In my dozen or so attempts to start a 14.1 run, I have yet to get passed one rack. I'm just too impatient. :o

14.1 high runs

Do we need to add a 400 ball option for John Schmidt?
Great DVD he has out. Definately helped my game.

55 is my tops.
Ran 30 +- in practice yesterday.

I find it hard to continually count exactly how many in practice and still concentrate on everything else.

Great post.

Surely you just count the number of racks less what's left on the table?

Yeah - pretty simple. Problem is on the first rack if I am in the middle of a rack after a miss while practicing.

Would be very easy if I started with a break shot and full rack every time.

surely you've never really tried to do it while in the midst of practice....

I ran 78 just this past Monday which is 6 higher than my high last year. Ran into a tough rack where a secondary break shot that I had to play to continue the run was really tough. I could've run more 2 or 3 more balls to reach 80 but I wanted to get to 100... Long story short, I miss the shot. It's not 100 but so far it's not such a bad new year either if you ask me.

My high run is 61 which was done about a year ago. I ussually will get a run in the 30's or 40's each time i practice 14.1. I'm putting a fast cloth on my table (tour ed. 3030) which I'm hoping will help me run more.
