I'll see if I can dig it out from the pits of hell, where it seems to have taken a vacation, sir!!! :) Just ask Myron....my last showing was what I would call "a little less than stellar."

Regardless of whether or not I get my a$$ handed to me (in both tourneys), it's gonna be a good time, for sure!!!

Looking forward to seeing you and Mrs. P again, sir. Give her my best, and we'll see ya there!

Mark

I must tell you Mark, Myrons game has kicked up a notch or two lately. I had a ball playing with him Satuday. So it isn't just you buddy.
Mrs. P says hello to ya my friend. You have a new fan.:D See you next Friday a week unless you are gonna be in Cascades Saturday.
Peace, Purdman

It is OK with Dawn as long as a person is not profiting from the tournament.

Does that include the folks getting in the money? :P Or is she simply referring to whoever's running the tournament not pocketing anything? Might want to clarify that.

And the BCA/APA thing - isn't BCA open-off-the-break always? APA, you are what you make if you only make a solids/stripes. Also there's that whole jump-cue-use restriction in APA but that's more easily ignored when doing your own thing. :D

Wish I could go and meet some of you fellow internet axe murderers, but alas...

Maybe we can get some opinions from people who were there

Howdy everyone. I've been going to the Expo every year for about 10 years. I'm excited about this AZB get-together. Last year I intended to at least have some drinks with some AZB'ers but it just didn't work out. There is just SOOOOOO much to do that sometimes you have to pick and choose. I mean there is the Open Amateur tourney which I'm playing in, there is the Senior Tourney (which my buddy is playing in), there are the Men's Pros to watch, there are all the vendors to visit, there is the partying you have to fit in, there are Midnight tournaments at Markley Billiards, there is March Madness on tv, there is the ever-mesmerizing Action Pit (which never ceases to amaze me), there is the Inside Pool party (one year JR gave me a wrist band and I didn't even go.....was too busy watching POOL:eek: ). Anyway I have a couple of thoughts about this prospective AZB tourney:

1. Holding the tourney at the Expo is a great idea but it may be difficult to get 4 tables together in there (we will probably need about 4-6 tables I'm guessing). The way it works is that everyone entering the "table area" pays $10 to go in and play as long as they want. You are free to play on any table you want/any table that's open. Of couse as long as we get AZB'ers on 4 different tables we should be OK.......even if they're a bit spread out......

2. Should we decide to drive to a nearby pool hall we should probably be safe and call ahead and make sure tables will be available to us. I've only been to Markley Billiards and it is a nice room but they usually have tournaments at least on Friday and Saturday. I'm not sure about Thursdays. This could be a good idea. If we go there I think it should start around 8:00 p.m. or so.

3. Whoever brings the brackets should probably bring a chart for 8, 16, 32 and 64 player fields -----I personally don't have a clue about how many of us will show up...it wouldn't surprise me if there were only 6 people (simply because like me last year--people will intend to show up only to come to be doing something else when it's time to go-----good intentions etc.:D

4. While I embrace the tournament I'm wondering to myself if it might be better to have single elimination with maybe a longer race (say a race to 5). If 32 people show up--a double elimination tourney can last a long time. Especially in 8-Ball.
Remember we're trying to socialize a bit as well and I'll tell you right now that if we hold this at the Expo.....it's not the greatest place for socializing.....anyway just my 2 cents worth......these are some issues we'll have to consider when we see the turnout.....

5. Would also like to maybe suggest a get-together without pool maybe in one of the bars at the hotel etc. That reminds me ---- I'm now going back to our supply cabinet and try to locate some labels --- maybe we can all slap a label on with our AZB screen names and real names??

Kind Regards,
9_Ball_King

Dawn was referring to the person putting together the tournament not profiting from it. There is tons of gambling going on anyway. My intention is not to profit from the tournament, just to have fun, meet AZ members, and probably get my butt kicked.

Great post 9_ball_king I would love to meet for drinks also. Thanks for the info on past expos. That is why it is so hard to put this thing together without being there before. My intention is to hook up with AZ'ers there and hopefully we can have a tournament. If not enough people are interested we can get together and just shoot some pool which will be alot easier. I know it is going to be a great time no matter what happens. At least if we meet at Chris' booth we will know the AZ faces, and take it from there, and see how it pans out. So everything can be left open if anyone wants to get together and play on Fri., Sat., or Sun. also. I know I will go crazy watching other people play the whole time there, without having anyone else to play with while I'm there since I'm going by myself:)

This is my first post, so forgive me if it doesn't come across well.
There is a recently re-opened room in Phoenixville called Classique Billiards (610)-917-0157. Completely redecorated with 11 GCIII's and a number of Gandy's, all with Simonis. Everything is immaculate. It is about 10 minutes from the Expo on route 23. Smoking is permitted and it is BYOB. There are specials on time - weekdays 3:00 to 6:00pm is $6.00 and on weekends 12:00 to 3:00 pm is $6.00 as well as the 3:00 to 6:00 and 12:00 to 6:00pm is $10.00. I know they plan to be open extended hours during the Expo and may even run some mid-night tournaments.

This sounds like the best place......

This sounds like the best place for our tourney.....by far.....because I do plan on drinking and smoking:cool: Even if all us AZB'ers don't go there...I now am intrigued and will definitely check it out.......thanks for the heads-up "cue4me"!

I'll try to make it, but the senior's tournament starts Friday, it may depend upon how early my match is. If you need a commitment at this point, then the answer is no.

Check your email for tournament charts

I just spoke with Dawn Hopkins about an AZ mini tournament. It is OK with Dawn as long as a person is not profiting from the tournament. Dawn said that tables are available after midnight to use for $10 each and this would not be a problem for her if we get together to shoot. Dawn never heard of AZ Billiards website which kind of surprised me. So the tournament is on please post if you are interested in playing. Does anyone have a bracket sheet to use for the tournament ? I can check at my poolhall tonight if they have any I can get from them. If all goes well maybe we can have multiple tournaments if anyone is interested :)

AZ Billiards Mini 8 ball tournament is on !!!8 ball tournament
$20 buy in double elimination
Race to 3 games
BCA rules
Thursday night 3/15/07 when tables open up after midnight.

Double elimination charts for 16, 24, and 32 players sent your way through email. Hope you guys enjoy the Expo and all the action!

Maybe next year!

Note: Watch out for the noisy Puerto Rican Contingent at the Expo!

Thanks for the charts juegabillar, they will definately come in handy for next week. Rep to you and have a good one.

just curious - where exactly will everyone meet to play? did i miss it in the thread? thanks.

The main thing is to be able to meet at the Expo. We can play there on the tables after the tournament, or take it to a local pool hall. I'm up to playing anywhere. Once we meet we can finalize the details there. How about we meet at Chris Byrne's booth to finalize the details on Thurday
at 2:00 pm if that is OK with Chris. If you can't be there at 2:00 pm you can stop by the booth to find out what was decided. Right now I am planning on playing on the tournament tables after hours. But if this is to late for everyone, maybe we could car pool to a local pool hall. I have never been to the billiards expo before, and do not know if alcoholic drinks are available or if it is even allowed in the tournament area after hours. I heard smoking is not allowed. This is why I want to leave our options open to where everyone wants to play and we can have the most fun. Without being restricted by any rules they might have. Maybe we can get some opinions from people who were there and knows more than I do.

Chris Byrne's booth is #20 on the lower level we will get together there on Thursday at 2:00 PM. Chris will also have a table setup to test hit his cues:D

expo

I'm leaving today for the Expo. If the timing is right I would be up for playing after hours for a bit or going to a poolhall to play.

The choking dog has landed.....

 Checked in now......still gotta bring the cooler up.......I'll try to post some updates over the next 3+ days.........can't make any promises, what with March Madness, Crudweiser, iPod sound system in room, YEAH BOY!!

Where's Chris's Booth...

Is Chris's Booth the same as Robin's Pro Shop/Hustlin USA??
In my program it says Booth #20 is Robin's?

Looks like if I get up there it will be tomorrow afternoon or Saturday..... Hope to be able to meet you all there.
