AZ Buildoff Cues

Sean, don't know if you got my PM, but I wanted to make sure you got this message.

I work for the Navy and unfortunately due to new job requirements, I will not be able to take part in the testing of these cues.

Thank you for arranging this wonderful idea. Maybe someday there will be another one, and I can take part in that one.

yes I got your message. Sorry to hear you wont be participating. I have changed jobs within the VA and man, I have not had any time for anything. Been going in early and getting off late and working saturdays and sundays......just been crazy around here so I understand your situation

poolplayer2093, things have changed. I dont want to take a chance on losing my paypal acct since I do so much with it besides the pool portion. We will do something with the cues though after they get back to me. I spoke with 1 cuemaker and he told me to do what I wanted with the cue so not exactly sure what I will do with that particular cue. SOme of the cuemakers have said to auction their cue off and donate the funds to AZ Billiards....I am going to double check with them when I get the cues back and we will go from there

Cues were shipped out today via UPS

I've been called a lot of things-never the ice cream man

I was called the( Ice Cream man )the other day. I parked out front of the pool hall and handed out samples. A good feeling letting others experience- something for free in the Pool world. While still trying to teach them something. I like the case too, but Its heavy!! (It needs wheels like luggage) I have been to 3 Poolhalls in the Metro area. Pool players here often play in the Arizona Area,Olathe etc. The cues are well excepted. ( for my own purposes. I have been weighting the shafts ,butts ,measuring the shaft tapers- They are all different-but look similar. mark

Yea, it is kinda heavy with all the cues....right at 18lbs. John Barton did an awesome job on that case didnt he? When I went to Olathe with it, people were asking how they could identify me.....I just said, I will be the guy with the rocket launcher over my shoulder

Every cuemaker involved I want to say again. I appreciate all of you guys that made a cue for this. You guys going out on a limb and doing this is very much appreciated. In the end, all the names that have cues in the buildoff will be revealed...Not really sure if I will reveal the names of the cuemakers that backed out "litterally" at the last second. But this was a great turnout I feel. I have learned alot during this.....the next one will be alot smoother.........

Thanks everyone
Shawn

No worries ,piece of mind, will be sending on

#1- Great shaft wood. The texture on the leather wrap is outstanding! I would say the whole cue is made from the same 30inch straight grained piece of wood. Nice fit and finish
#2- Tightest grain count, linen wrap is tight. Wood is exceptional Birdseye. This cue plays very well-definitely a cue I would use hustling!!
#3- This Birdseye wood is over the top,(staining and sanding) brought out all the eyes. Abalone tip on the G-10. I think the handle is stained rosewood and is beautiful. Long butt cap and joint-reminds me of SW.
#4- 2nd tightest grain, I like the dark color. The collars and joints (over sized) needed a little more sanding to fit perfectly. I don't like the squeaking aluminum pin.Has the most popular linen wrap.
#5 stunning Birdseye and purple heart- best player. I must say again all the shafts are $100. Soft hit but made ALL the balls.
#6 unique pin, butt cap work. Stunning Birdseye and purple heart. This shaft was different taper than the others, it was thicker shaft too. SWEET
#7 This cue had the most wood to wood contact. Very solid player. Finish is a little thin. Again I say great shaft wood. NICE POINTS AND PIN.
WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO KNOW IF ALL THE FERRULES AND JOINTS AND COLLARS WERE GLUED AND SCREWED. I prefer wrapped cues when gambling. again I say the shaft wood is high quality on all cues. I did use other less deflecting shafts (and it helped accuracy ) IF THIS IS THE QUALITY OF WOODS ON ENTRANCE CUES - WHAT WOULD A GUY GET ON A HIGH BUCK CUE? SUPER WOODS AND SHAFTS.

THANKS TO ALL CUE MAKERS, I WOULD BE PROUD TO OWN ANY OF THE CUES. 2,5,7, WERE THE MOST LIKED BY OTHERS. THANKS MARK

Initial Feedback

As mentioned earlier, the cues arrived yesterday well packed and protected. The case is great and I look forward to using it to take the cues to several pool halls in the next few days.

I've got a very full day today, so no reviews, but Tomorrow, Saturday and Monday are already committed to be busy evaluation days.

I did want to point out one thing I noticed, and that was several scratches to the finish on one of the cues. Here's a photo:

This is the way I received it. These imperfections are not going to interfere with the evaluation process, nor IMHO should they detract from this cuemaker's rep, as they must have occurred somewhere along the way.

Much more data to follow soon.

Thanks John...Well, with as many hands that these cues have been through, I personally thought there would be a little more damage than what we have...The scuffs and scrapes on the cues should not in any way affect a persons decision on purchasing a cue from any one of these cuemakers....

The names of the cuemakers will be coming out soon........you guys stay tuned
